The end of Lupo/Arosa as a regular car?

Is that an old Merc? Whatever it is, some lovely lines on there. And rust. Oh yes. Plenty of rust. Not just the easy to deal with surface corrosion, but full on swiss cheese, paper thin, can't weld to it rust. Mmmm. Lovely.

There's going to hours of fun fabricating lots of tiny little pieces to stitch the whole thing back together. And filler. And some fibreglassing too. Ooh, I can't wait (to let someone else do all the work).

It'll be a thing of beauty when done though. Got all the bits? Complete?

It’s a 1960s merc 190SL. They did the 300SL too but it had gullwing doors. It’s a three month metalwork job and I’m two and a half in. 02792D39-4F2E-40CC-B21C-802A129C25D4.thumb.jpeg.579506b399d7a2cdef35d3109d9ee63b.jpegDA7C145D-3D9E-4A4C-BAFC-F5468877A1A9.thumb.jpeg.7e99f0e95fdcdb3555ba607684258e28.jpeg784AB48A-2D7D-4CF7-A0CD-98FCBE149875.thumb.jpeg.7e49c5f4762ad4b581dde9f71def10d4.jpeg64F2A89A-F6AA-44E7-A1C8-5B302465AC42.thumb.jpeg.28e4b68ba98d01d53f7b9a818662c659.jpegA4858C15-0D8B-4924-BB78-A902CBA33A80.thumb.jpeg.6eea75f101da8dddc4fa56fff3a71386.jpeg8BA7C1A9-234C-455C-A7DE-F7D9C8F5C8F8.thumb.jpeg.ae9bd6c9a7c0a9c09536093c3d6b7736.jpeg

That crossmember is 3mm thick and hand folded!! As for the paintwork I can’t be arsed and I just do bikes these days as it’s easier.

I'm self taught, but I must be honest and say that I've had so many good tips and tricks from various paint sellers. Some really know their stuff. I now get a better result than most paint shops. :) Lots of disasters in the past though. Like completely start again.

The spray kit isn't that pricey. But it does matter where you spray. I used to do everything outside, waiting for a grey day with no wind, or dust or insects, with low humidity and ideally above 10c. Car all ready. Rubbed down and masked up. Roll it out. Wipe and Tack-rag it down. Spray. Back under cover again. Close the door. Maybe 3h for a whole car. Basecoat and clear. All the primers and stuff are not critical as you need to wet sand it all down anyway.

But yeah, I also hate rebuilding rusty, nasty, holed panels.

Another one to the ‘outside ‘ collection of paint jobs, this is as we all know it ‘the famous helicopter pad’ for flies!! Just painted my Rossa bonnet and chanced it, it’s paid off today! B66F0382-735A-4D47-9D7B-DB10A02161FA.thumb.jpeg.09e14917c61e76c337fa236e613b1ed5.jpegD9045E3D-3F78-41DF-BA81-F8DB99AEA753.thumb.jpeg.9b2ad3cf74061d161018a513d97b7a79.jpeg
