Will 16 inch alloys cause rubbing issues on a Lupo?

Hi, I have a 2001 1.0 Lupo and its my first car.

Could anyone tell me if a set of 16 inch alloys with low profile tyres will fit fine or will they cause rubbing issues?

I am going to buy a pair of 16 inch alloys with 45 low profile tyres already on them from a friend but I want to make sure it will be fine before I get them so any help will be appreciated.

I like G60 steels. Look good on most vdubs, so long as they're clean. The stock 3L alloy wheel is pretty much a copy of the G60, and it looks appropriate fir a lupo. But there are so many wheels that go well on Lupos. Not sure about "teddies" though.

Why, 15" G60 steels are cool, I have a set of 15" R50 steels with new tyres, won't be that different

One inch makes a difference.

16 inch looks fairly daft in my opinion:

IMHO R16 will always rub. Even R15 must be selected properly with low profile tyres to not rub.

I came to conclusion this was false statement - Lupo is made for 22inch tires (diameter), all follwing tires are 22inch:

  • 175/65 R13
  • 155/65 R14
  • 185/55 R14
  • 195/45 R15 (21,91", OEM Lupo GTI)
  • 195/40 R16 (22.14")

23" tires (like 185/55 R15 and 195/45 R16), without special modifications, will occasionally rub.

You can only get away with 16s on a GTI imo. for one, they actually fit. And they look good with the wider arches. Not that I am biased at all...

16 inch fills the arches just right 👍

These looks like 195/40 R16 tires which has 22inch diameter, therefore this setup should be totally fine.

Filling arches is not the same as making sure they are not rubbing while driving. On OEM setup 23inch tires will rub against the fender arch and the bumper on large bumps because of soft spring rate, which allows a large amount of travel. If you have coilovers then it might be possible to use 23inch tires. It is not about rim size, it is all about tire diameter, width and offset. Could use R17 rims on Lupo, but with 185/35 R17 tires and proper offset.
