miodek89
Hello. What is the way to unscrew the whip of the roof antenna? I unscrew up to a point and later does not want to leave ..
Kevberlin
The whip part has a male screw thread. It screws into the female thread on the roof base. Mine came off quite easily. It may be seized and require grips on the male thread. Good luck
miodek89
Tell me, does this antenna whip have such a "anti-theft" wheel at the end? Apparently some antenna whips had such a thing. You don't have to pull it harder or take it left and right when pulling?
Kevberlin
Not on mine. It was a simple screw out. I also just replaced one on my Mini Roadster and that too, was exactly the same.
miodek89
Unfortunately, nir does not want to leave so easily ☹️ For me, this is probably the tip of the antenna whip, so I do not want to go out so easily ..
Kevberlin
Both my antennae (Lupo and Mini) look like this:
Kevberlin
They came supplied with 2 different adapters. One 6mm to 6mm. One 6mm to 5mm
miodek89
Just like you showed i just want to buy just tell me how is my current antenna unscrewed? Edited April 2, 2020 by miodek89
Kevberlin
If it’s like the ones I showed you, it will unscrew. i can only guess it may be rusted or cross threaded.

Kevberlin
Mine was simple screw out/screw in. This video below appears to be yours too.
miodek89
I will try I'll let you know. And what whip do you recommend? Original or shorter?
Kevberlin
I bought original length aerials for both my cars. They were 40mm. The research I did suggested short stub aerials are not so effective as longer ones. Good luck
miodek89
So it's better to buy 40mm than a shorter antenna? And tell me how can I seal the antenna base? Some black silicone?
Kevberlin
Yes. Longer is better. i sealed by base with a new gasket like below. Fitted perfectly. https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B016QC6JZ0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00?ie=UTF8&psc=
miodek89
Thank you so much my friend. So now tell me how to replace such a gasket?
Kevberlin
It’s easy. Just place over the base and stretch it into place. No silicone is necessary.
miodek89
But I think I need to unscrew the antenna base? So I have to get to the nut in the headliner?
Kevberlin
Not necessary for the gasket. It stretches over the base
miodek89
Fact. But this gasket goes under the antenna and it is firmly screwed on, unless I speak wrong?
mk2
Some lupo antenna facts: There is a square silicone rubber seal moulded into the metal antenna bracket that bolts to the roof. The black rubber seal is basically just a trim. When you tighten up the nut on the inside, the force crushes the silicone seal against the roof sealing it perfectly. Problems only happen when salt spray starts to corrode the metal base and allows moisture to capillary around the seal. But by this time the rest of the car has probably already disolved away... Also, for best reception on FM or AM, you need a big antenna. It is known as "effective aperture". Imagine trying to catch fog passing the antenna "stick". But the size limit is set by the frequency band. Lower frequency, longer antenna... And, if you use a non OEM hifi unit, chances are that the antenna plug/socket is not powered. You need to supply a +ve feed to the circuit board in the antenna base. You can buy antenna power adapters to do that. The existing Lupo antenna base will not work with DAB or DAB+ radios. Ever. Kevberlin
Thanks for that. I don’t know this stuff
miodek89
Thanks for the info. For me, this rubber gasket on the roof broke off in several places and I just want to do something to make it look aesthetically pleasing. Can some black silicone give? Unless you have other ideas? For me, the radio programs are from 90fm to 104 FM. This 40cm bat will be ok? The radio is not original. Pioneer is mounted
ArosaScott
Ok, i can add to this also. Before i moved to a DAB unit i tried a shorter bee sting aerial and it didn't pick up the normal FM channels as good as the standard one. The aerial unscrews from the base till it wont unscrew no more and then holding the black base with one hand just the aerial a tug and it should release from the base. The normal standard aerial will NOT work with a 'splitter' for DAB, you'll need a powered aerial or one of the DAB windscreen mounted jobs. Kevberlin
The link I sent you will sort it. That is what happened to my rubber gasket
