Hello form Guernsey

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone! I have a 2002 6 speed Lupo GTi. I've owned her since 2004.

She has an oil leak somewhere, not showing on the floor but she burns a lot of oil with white smoke from her exhaust.

She needs new hoses, does anyone know the best place to get silicone hoses for her? ASAP she needs crankcase breather hose.

The check engine light is on which comes up on the OBD reader as fuel/oxygen ratio.

I've taken her to a couple of garages over here who don't seem interested in helping me fix her, so myself and my partner are taking on the job.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

Sounds like its breathing heavy (no not that kind) so try venting the crankcase breather into a catch can instead of it going back in the engine. Or else that is all blocked and needs a good clean as well. Burning oil and white smoke isnt a healthy combination but see what it does with the crankcase breather cleaned and venting into a can. Fuel / oxygen ratio could be all connected to the heavy breathing as the burning oil is messing with the mix or sensors / cat etc.

Probably worth doing a compression test as well to see if it is mechanically healthy or not.

Welcome to club lupo :)

most likely it's the oil fumes getting sucked in. Try what @Sausage suggests.

In this winter weather, does the engine ever get fully warmed up? I'm guessing that on the island yiu don't drive that far and the oil isn't doing its job properly. So I'd flush the engine oil out and run thinner oil, like 0w30 for a while. Could be a stuck ring? Engine oil only starts to work properly once it reaches about 90c.

You may have a load of custard on the inside of the oil filler cap. If you do, it's a sure sign thatbthe engine is suffering from cold overuse. Condensation appears and starts blocking all the oil and air ways, leading to an imbalance in fuel air. (Air is being restricted).

Look after the car... they're going up in value now. Everyone wants one. Especially if it's had the same owner for so long! Pics?

Thank you everyone for all your comments and suggestions. We will give them all a go!

She does seem to reach temperature, normal journey is roughly 30/40 mins and top speed reached is 40mph 😂

She needs a few body work bits done too, but shes a work in progress.

She was left sat for 3 years in my front garden as a garage told me she was knackered and would cost me a fortune to fix, even though I wanted to, they didn't seem to think it was a good idea! We checked the oil and it was all clear from any custard/cottage cheese substances.

I am her second owner, can't believe I have owned her 16 years! I don't feel old enough!!
