Stua9
The torx bolt on the strut top, the only t45 I had (snap on) started stripping the inside. Now apart from putting heat on it but will burn the rubber, I'm buggered as to what now. I've got a Dremmel and can grind a groove but there's no way I have to strength or the good screwdriver bit on a socket to then hold it while the 21mm spanner turns the nut. Sausage
Impact gun. Or if the strut is knackered some stilsons (pipe wrench) on the strut between the springs.
ArosaScott
Yep impact gun would be my first option, and then would try getting a slightly bigger torx / allen and hammmer it into the hole and hope that grips it while turning the nut with a spanner. Stua9
Got it The nut/strut turned fine it's the torx I needed held still to loosen the nut hence an impact (which I've got) is no use.
LR5V
I have messed up too many shocks trying to do these by the book, I even have a proper open sided socket, I now always always impact these off. The "torx" is actually a Hex, it is the top of the shock rod - you need to stop that turning - as per Sausage reply if the shock is good, another option is to Dremmel the nut till it splits
Sausage
Mole grips with a bit of copper padding will do it without messing up the shock under the arch between the spring coils. Or hammer a hex in there.
Rich
I've hammered many a t45 into those.
