Arosa 1998 central locking system

Hi everyone, I've had my Arosa for 10 years now (time has flown!) and it still drives very well, a great little car especially for parking! However, recently, it's started to decide to lock/unlock itself continuously, so continuously that it drained my battery.

My local garage has disabled the central locking system for the passenger's door and it's now on manual mode, however the driver's door and boot are still on central locking mode and it's still going berserk. 😥

Sooo, as I'm not planning to part with my little car just yet, my questions are:
1) does anyone know what could cause this locking/unlocking.
2) And I like to have central locking so, if it was a question of replacing the master lock and whatever motor goes with it, how much would it cost approximately?

Many thanks in advance.

Yours gratefully... 🙂

Yes, it's the switches that sense if the doors are locked or not. Every, and I mean every VAG car from about '97 to '08 ish has central locking problems. Or will have at some point.

You need a new lock switch assembly, probably for the driver's door. Ebay.... new about £15. Bora or mk4 golf is usually the cheapest.

Thanks MK2!  One more, if my passenger door was connected back to the central locking system, would I need to buy 6X1837014C instead, also would I need new keys?  Thanks.

...7013C is for left hand door, right hand drive cars. You can keep the existing locks and keys 😀

But it could just be one of the door modules that's messing you about. There's a Youtube vid somewhere showing how to change door locks on golfs/boras etc.

Just realised, I made a mistake- not ...014G, as that is for cars without central locking. Look at the parts diagram and description and you'll see what I mean....

I'm afraid I'm not mechanically-minded at all 🤔 😂, so I'll pass your info onto someone local to me who, hopefully, will be able to help!  😀  Many thanks MK2!
