GTI Coolant

Planning to change my Coolant Temp Sensor and knowing me I'll end up letting a lot of the coolant piss out being too slow.

So to top it up what coolant do I need exactly? Can't seem to find a straight answer but from what I gather can I just throw in any of the G12 variants, or G13 or G30 or does the colour of my existing coolant matter?

And to top up coolant on a GTI am I right in thinking it's from the expansion tank since there's no cap on the actual radiator?

Gracias!!!

G13 is the current VW coolant for pretty much all VW branded vehicles, part number G 013 A8 JM1 £12.72 inc vat for 1.5 litres

And yes, coolant is added via the expansion bottle

Does the sensor just push in as far as it'll go and it's in or does it have to go in a particular direction? As you can imagine coolant did piss out everywhere, empty now😓

Check o ring, push in till th clip feels engaged and try to pull it out.

If it isn't in right once it pressurises you're sitting there upset.

You should have drained the coolant and presumably it is new from when the engine was done.

Wasteful and bad for the environment.

Well crap😂 Is that draining it by disconnecting one of the radiator hose pipes?

Just chucked coolant into the expansion tank after it all pissed out, then took it on a long ish drive with no warning lights or irregularities so assuming that's done correctly☺️.
