Paul78
Hi everyoneI am servicing my 2007 Fox 1.4 BKR engine. The handbook only recommends 502 00 oil. Nothing more specific. Some websites specify 5w30 and some 5w40. Does anyone have any idea which is the correct one to use?I would typically use 5w30 but am questioning why so many suggest 5w40.The car has 72k and will only do about 5000 miles a year. lupogtiboy
VW502/00 is 5w40 oil for fixed service schedule so I'd stick to that
mk2
If it barely warms up, so lots of short trips, I go for a thinner oil (like ...w30) and change it religeously every few months. Oil only starts working once the engine is hot. The detergents will never get a chance to do their thing if only warm.
Paul78
Although i don't do many miles per year, they are a mix of motorway and town so have decided to use 5w40 as i change the oil every year. My choice now is VW's Quantum Platinum or Shell Helix HX8. The Shell is on sale for £18 for 5 litres at Eurocarparts just now so both are roughly the same price
