wrxfifer
So Daughters 2003 VW Lupo 10L failed mot on this just, and sure they only have wishbones/ suspension arma on the front so do they mean control arms or what?
Sausage
One piece beam: If rusted badly it needs replacement. Lupo or Arosa are same, drum brake axles will be a lot cheaper and more plentiful.
LR5V
Agreed it could be rear beam, but they could be referring to the rear of front control arm on both sides - you need to drop in or call the test centre to request more clarification. Rear beams do rust through, but I would say control arms are the more likely suspect as they are thinner metal.
yeha
Both my front arms rusted through last year. One failed catastrophically on the road, I caught the other one just before it failed.
Rich
One of mine failed once on a busy road. It wasn't pretty and I had a truck tow me into a lay by. Wasn't pretty after that either
Sausage
My 1.4s has a rusty hole in the rear beam arm in front of the main bush complete with MOT fail yellow marker around it. I discover that when giving it a proper look over to try and decide what to do with it.

LR5V
This was what i found hidden in my subframe during my rebuild:
Rich
Mine went near the balljoint. Got another and fixed it roadside, running around traffic finding bearings to rebuild a shaft.

wrxfifer
some pictures of the rust so what would be the general opinion of what they are calling suspension arms corroded and mot failure?
Sausage
Look in front of the rear wheel near the big round bush. They normally mark it to avoid confusion. Edited June 2, 2019 by Sausage

Nowhere near enough flex. The arm isn't designed for that level of resistance.

mk2
Cable ties are good for temporary suspension bodging. A load strapped together with some anti chafing rag will get you home. Amazingly strong...
Sausage
Not mine, but this seems the main fail area for rust on the rear beam:

Well, the my new arms are powder coated and Superpro camber correction polybushes. 3 hours ago, Sausage said: Not mine, but this seems the main fail area for rust on the rear beam: That is just special - was that a Llanelli local car?
