Fantastic! Thank you fine gentlemen😁 Will give decrapping under the archliner a go! I just find it amazing how there can be so much build up under the scuttle in only 3 months where most the time it was just sat there. Let's just pray and see after if the heater wants to work again afterwards🙏

Few more little changes made this week in time for VW Festival😁

Took the front bumper off to pull the headlight out to do the bracket and what a fun experience that was...

Bought a headlight bracket repair kit off eBay so just a case of filing off the old bracket and using a plastic self tapping screw and some plastic adhesive

Not seen the front end complete in a while though😍

Next we did a bit with the lights, whacked some LED brake/taillights in and they made a massive difference. Trying to go for a fresher more modern look on the rear so ordered some LED plate lights too but smart ass over here ordered blue ones by accident...

As cool as they are I'm a law abiding person so they got taken out straight away😂

Whacked in some new indicator lenses too, could have kept goldfish in the old lenses with the amount of water in em...

Sticking it on the stand?

Will make an attempt to change it by self but with limited room under it when on axle stands I'll just end up swearing a lot and getting annoyed probably😁

Got hold of the correct plate bulbs now, just wowwwww, excited to properly see what it looks like in the dark😍

Pulled out the MAP Sensor to have a proper look for irregularities. Can anyone shed some light on this one though since is it supposed to have that orange looking ball thing inside it? Looking at other MAP Sensors for the GTI I don't believe it does but who knows

A proper rollercoaster of emotions today...

Finally got the new centre silencer on and wowwww the standard one sounds so much better and I'm sure neighbours will appreciate it more too! Hats off to Y2ACP though for recommending me an honest garage to go to.

Old centre silencer was an absolute turd though like who in the world could butcher a job like that and think it will still sound nice.

The garage positioned the pipe a lot better too😍

The drive back was interesting however. At some traffic lights and then when I pulled off the car wouldn't go. The accelerator was extremely delayed and eventually revved so I could move off. Completely shat it that this would be the end of this car and a burning smell didn't help either. Luckily I was close to Halfords Autocentre and politely asked if they could do us an OBD scan. Found nothing of use from it.

So a few posts ago I showed some brighter LED taillights. Turns out it was them throwing up the EPC light so they've been removed. Surprised at that with the Lupo not having CAN bus but lesson learnt for all of us😁

Finally did a battery test at work and apparently the battery was on its way out which doesn't surprise me.

Found some battery acid in the tray but on a sidenote what is that transparent tube that looks like washer tubing supposed to be?

Ended up fitting a Yuasa HSB010 with a 680A starting power

You have missed the opportunity to take the battery tray out there.

I suggest you go back and do so.

Especially with the acid.

Plastic tube is for venting fumes from the box

The battery supposed to be sitting in that tool tray? Cheers for clearing that up!

Sorry if I am reading between the lines here, but it is the battery box, is your battery not bolted down?

It should have a bracket and bolt + the vent goes to the battery, tube connects onto a 90 degree elbow  that is usually included with the terminal covers on new batteries:

If its not bolted down, it would be an MOT fail as it could move around in a n accident, short out and start a fire.

Battery is not bolted down no, thank you for bringing that up! Will connect the breather hose to the battery asap though. Can anyone with a GTI post a picture of what under the carpet floor looks like exactly so what type of bracket is used to hold the battery in and what tools Volkswagen supplied you with from factory?

No problem fella - probably missed in the MOT as it's in the boot. Battery gives of hydrogen when it gets charged - but if over charged it gives off hydrogen sulphide not a big deal in an engine bay, but is if its in the cabin.

Just went looking for a PN, but no luck  - its a bent piece of metal rod that slots into an opening at the front, sits in the groove around the battery and only one bolt -that you can see in my pic above - at the eye shown below:

It's obsolete from VW now but the part number was 6X0 803 550 A and should look like a metal bar as shown in yellow below

Thank you! Turns out I do have that bracket so cheers for bringing that up. Discovering many many MOT failure problems now and this car has a very clean MOT so definitely some dodgy things going on here...

So I've put some JOM Blueline coilovers on now for lows

1707222485_Spring3.JPG.cfa60f9b0297a24719878168740e96c5.JPG

Joking

So what actually happened was I went round a roundabout and heard a massive bang like someone threw something at the car, got out to be greeted with this...

1425936329_Spring2.JPG.f8a6bee3d770613417871b74efe50132.JPG406902894_Spring1.JPG.b399e06db577b49e756cd86c684935b1.JPG

Hate this car sometimes like it was all fine but as soon as I move to the West Midlands away from home this happens😂

Had AA take a look at it in case it was something else which had failed worse but the gent reckons it is just the spring snapping since it drives smoothly most the time.

2100411310_AAReport.thumb.jpg.7d0eb0b38e3ed0a10f1035f4b24e9b89.jpg

In the meantime instead of messing about with upgrades/coilovers/etc just gone to the main dealer and paid about £108 for a new spring. I know that is ridiculous for a spring but I need the car asap for work so it has to be done unfortunately😪

So a return is made again, not done anything to the car since except some fruity air fresheners but finally hit the 200k club:D

200k.jpg.e40f73574679afd032be1c6c027a5456.jpg

Got a few ideas lined up however, looking to stick some Cambridge rear lights and a BMC CDA on, some sort of Stainless Steel exhaust and then look at properly sorting the overfuelling. Everything I do will be easily reversible but just feeling a few subtle mods now

Good evening :D

Just out of interest, your over fuelling issue- does your car stink of fuel when you fire it up first thing in the morning regardless of weather after it has sat overnight?

Martin :)

Hi Martin!

Yes that's correct, always stinking of Petrol whatever the weather after it's not been driven for a few hours. You experiencing similar issues? I still need to get VCDS on the car to find out what's going on😆

Good afternoon Adrian :)

Yes I have the same issue, mine has done so since purchase at 128000 ish miles (just about to click 154000), I assumed it was normal and down to what the GTi engine was based on, there is a topic or something like that on the forum somewhere that mentions the engine was based on a race version (I think) and that to make it pass the emissions for road legal use, the idle had to modified- but it has been such a long time since I read it I have probably got the details wrong.... :lol:

Incidentally, when you had the LED bulbs fitted and your EPC light came on, did you get a brake light switch fault log?

Martin.

I'd change the green temp sensor if it smells rich when cold.

Such a cheap part too.

I did that praying my fuel trips would be less but still there after changing it😥 Changed every sensor/part I can possibly think of which affects it directly but no ball.
