Headlight Ballast

They don't list it on ETKA as fitting the S4 anymore, they do list a 'repair kit' for either side though which is a bit cheaper. Can't say they are compatible with GTI headlamps or not as I've never seen one in the flesh, part numbers as follows:

They're all made by Magneti Morelli aren't they? I would expect they've been used on a few cars.

I wonder if you could repair one of these yourself in fact..... :)

The GTI ballast is made by Valeo

D'oh!!! Of course they are. It even says it on the back of the cap. Sorry, my mistake.

All HID tube drivers are the same. If the system uses a standard 35W Xenon filled tube, then the drive voltage and current is always the same. The things that are different are the plugs and sockets, the box it's in and if there's a CAN bus or fault detection interface. It's a pretty dumb piece of electronics, just like a fan controller.

But I wouldn't mess with it unless you know what you're doing, as the tube driver voltage is lethal. Thousands of volts.

They are definitely the same as the B5 S4, a matr has one and his packed up the other week so he had one of my spare ones👍🏼

Yeah Etka used to say they were fitted on both cars but doesn't anymore, only gives those repair kits on the B5 A4, so I'd imagine they would fit the Lupo just fine but can't confirm that
