Exhaust manifold

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know of a common fault with the exhaust manifold ?

My son has just bought a 1.0 54 plate Lupo, tidy little car, runs well with a few minor issues I’m currently working through. The biggest problem is the exhaust is blowing and it appears to be at the manifold, I have replaced the exhaust to head gasket and exhaust to what would have been the pre cat, but it’s still leaking. I’m wondering now if there is a small crack in the manifold. Has anyone encountered such a problem, is this a common fault if so is there a specific place to look, thanks in advance

Welcome to CL :)

if there is a crack (which is possible), solution is to replace the manifold. Might be able to weld it, but it'll probably crack again. Just be sure there is a crack before swapping it, as it might be further down the system. You just have to get under the car while idling and somone bungs up the tail pipe till you find it....

Those one litres love a blowing exhaust.

Good luck but I would just find a Lupo or Polo in a scrappy and whip one off.

Cheap and easy solution.

Check surfaces with steel ruler before fitting and follow a torque sequence.
