Blanco70
Hi all, just driven new addition to the family a smart little 55 plate 1.0 lupo home. Daughters first car. When test driving I did get a sensation that the car was over-revving but upon inspection engine seemed to settle back to normal tick over idle. On motorway home the engine again seemed to be at a higher rev rate than on dial. I think it might be a sound connected to the engine. Increases with speed. Then yellow engine warning light came on. Was planning to take to a local VW specialist anyway to get it checked but wanted to throw it out there in case anyone had any thoughts? Thanks peeps ! Rich
if it is over revving when you dip the clutch it could be a faulty clutch switch.

Would recommend starting out with scanning the car for any fault codes and go from there really.
LR5V
Use a smart phone to scan Bluetooth or WiFi OBD readers can be had next day from Amazon - dependant on what smart phone you use will dictate what type + what software to use Android - bluetooth & Torque app iPhone - WiFi & OBD car doctor app
Blanco70
Thanks - So I went to a specialist who diagnosed Foc. Turns out to be an egr pipe and valve. Parts £260 labour another £60. Gulp. Must be a cheaper place and how bad is a faulty egr?
mk2
get a used one from a scrappers... fiver? or just wrap some horrid exhaust wrap around the pipe for a ghetto fix. the valve will probably start to work once the pipe is sealed up. Even a new one from Euro is £120. Where abouts in the country are you?
Blanco70
Hi Milton Keynes! They have quoted I think with genuine parts and I pushed back. They have now offered with non genuine parts so will see what this does to the price. I am not sure if just resetting the warning and leaving the fault is a balanced risk ... probably a bad idea! All prices btw excluded Vat that were quoted.
cj1
Are you handy with some tools? It's quite a simple job to do yourself really. Isn't that involved. Only downside is you need to run adaptation using vcds afterwards, but still cheaper by a considerable amount...

I had this discussion with mattarosa because I was convinced that throttle body alignment was done on repeatedly cycling the ignition, but it's possibly the EGR reset? Or possibly neither and my brain is rotting away thanks to excessive age.
Blanco70
Thanks for advice - could have a go as have access to tools ... would need instructions? garage has offered a bit of discount but not enough for me to not shop around. Can any garage do this job? The garage I spoke to told me the following .... The egr is very important, if this is not changed it could cause the car to brake (sic) down and cause long term damage and it would fail an Mot interesting as I bought the car with 12 months mot haha!!! any more advice alwYs welcome - great group! mk2
rubbish. deleting egr actually is better for your engine, but sadly the computer is monitoring everything, and as a consequence will simply say "no"... The level of work is similar to doing a major service; so like changing plugs, oil and filters. not impossible but you do need to think while working. basic hand tools should suffice. if anyone on here has the same model, post a pic with notes of which bits need to be undone... Only speaking from my own experience really. As for removing it, remember it being as simple as removing the airbox and then maybe 3 or 4 torx bolts on the EGR. Took around 30 mins in total I think! mattarosa
I never ran the adaptation when I took the ex mrs egr off for cleaning and that was fine after... On this note throttle body adaptation... Ross tech says measuring blocks 60 but mine only goes upto 25, any ideas?
