Burning oil

Blocked crankcase breather/pipework seems likely...Loads of older VW engines do this I'm afraid, the good news is it's not usually indicative of any serious problems ;)

Take the pipework off and clean it out, monitor for further build up of 'mayo' and clean again as required IME.

to be fair, the oil breather pipe is supposed to breath oil back into the airbox, that is its job. If you want, you could get a catch can?

^ Wise words, my experience (Ropey Mk4 Golf 1.4 16v) has been that when these pipes clog or get blocked oil consumption rises exponentially as oil is forced out here there and everywhere...

@juicyjay7 Get the pipes checked/cleaned and also check and clean the oil breather module connected to the block if needed ;)
