Zeegti
Problem with xenons So drivers side xenon is not working some cable was cut I've put them back together but still not working When i turn lights on it flickers and tries to turn on and goes off there is power going through the wires that was cut so that part is fine Main light doesn't work (red circle) But the bottom light is working (green circle) So if the ballast/igniter is dead could the bottom work but the top wouldn't? I haven't swapped over the bulb, is it a definite bumper off job? Thank you
Skezza
Sounds like ballast to me if it's flickering. Bulb can also cause that though.
Zeegti
Do i need to remove the full bumper for the bulb ?
Skezza
No, you can just remove the smaller grill and then remove the headlight and work with that.
Zeegti
Okay thank you skezza is there anything that will make sure it is the ballast?

Zeegti
I dont know what you mean cause taking the bumper is not making any difference to not removing the front bumper
lupogtiboy
The only way to get full access to the xenon bulb on these is to remove the front bumper completely. All you have done in the picture above is remove the radiator grille, which you have to remove to get the bumper off. There are quite a few screws on GTI's to take the bumper off, and you'll also need to remove the front wheel arch liners to get to a couple of screws hidden in there... With regard to your question above, the bulb in the green circle is the indicator so not affected by the xenon ballast.

Zeegti
Also would a polo 6n2 ballast be the same? Thank you
Skezza
I thought you could just remove that upper bumper part to access the whole light unit? You certainly can on a non-GTI
