Skajme
Decided to make a thread here to keep track of my progress with my GTI. Bought her back in January when she looked like this... Definitely a few rough edges (lacquer peel, kerbed alloys) general 14 year old car wear and tear! Changed a few thing's whilst waiting to pass my driving test, but it was mainly a case of keeping her clean and kissing her goodnight..the usual. Got myself some pressed plates and got some Cambridge lights which I de-tangoed Then I passed my driving test and could finally drive her! This was my first ever drive out on my own, First stop was for some petrol Absolutely love driving her, amazing little car! have also had the alloys refurbished and polished/cleaned like a right nob head Did a little touch up job on the rear brakes aswell because they had been replaced with grey ones and it annoyed me everytime I saw them! Skajme
Not planning on crazy low, there's a lot of speed bumps around where i live! Just want to get that arch gap down to an acceptable level! No idea why the standard suspension is so high!
scottee88
Yeah got a few around where i am, was thinking 40mm for mine. I reckon it should have been about 30mm lower as standard anyway where it is now is just stupid.

Skajme
little update, Got the rear coilovers on at weekend, took me almost two hours to get the bolts off the bottom of the shocks! They were seized like nothing I have ever seen before. So because of that I ran out of time to fit the fronts, I just levelled it up with the front as best I could until i can get the fronts done. Also discovered I had been sent the wrong bolts with my spacers, so waiting for them now aswell...frustrating!Anyway, here's a comparison

EnglandSoul
Smart looking GTi mate looking at buying coilovers for my gti as my current suspension is way to bouncy and crashy. How low did you go with the APs as the pic looks like how i want mine to sit. Also what tyres do you have on? I currently have 195/45/15. Cheers. Cheers.Didn't actually measure the height because I haven't got the fronts done yet, but i wound the adjusters down so there was 4 threads visible at the bottom. My tyres are the same as yours aswell!Speaking of finishing fitting the coilovers i took my front wheel off to be confronted with this...Could not get them to budge at all. Any suggestions on what to do? I was thinking some penetrating oil and a breaker bar maybe??
Pete
Yes that's exactly what you need. Also, have you got any better pics of your rear wheel positions? They look from your pics above like they sit quite far back in the arches.
Skajme
I'll get hold of them in the morning then and give it a go. I haven't got any better pictures, I'll get some better ones tomorrow. Is that an issue if they do? And what would cause it?
Pete
Not sure, but I'm positive someone had summat recently exactly the same. But one the wheels should be dead centre to the arch. Have a look round the forum.
