hi been looking at a 1.7 diesel sdi lupo as first car and looks nice in fair condition for its age 2002. But mileage is quite high at 139k is this ok for diesels? Heard they last for ages. Been offered it for £1k is this a good deal or would you guys stay clear cos of the high mileage.

ultimatly want a small car that can get me from a to b so this would be perfect

any advice welcome!

139k miles? It's barely run in. I'm up to 144k miles and it's driving better than ever. Rich has one with 230k and I believe the Club Lupo record is 300k miles. The Club Polo record however is over a million miles.

These engines are bullet proof. They're from VW's industrial line and were designed to exceed well in excess of 500k miles.

You shouldn't be concerned about the engine, but check the gearbox and change the oil once a year or two at most.

even tho the engines can go on forever, dont just buy it lol

gearboxes are a major week link as are electrics and pedal boxes.... once youve checked it all out and its ok. id say its a good price considering 02 models would be the 30 pounds a year tax bracket. and they sip fuel

kool thanks for the advice guna try take someone who has a good idea about motors. Its got 11 months mot and only bad points is the passenger window is tempramental and heater only works on 4 but these seems small issues

probably requires a new switch and heater on 4 is heater resistor. Very easy fixes.

Agreed on the gearbox. Get the oil changed once a year.
