mpiloop
What should I have done differently? Just for future reference?
Dblock
Depends on what you have. IMO the best way is to get a "race pipe" straight pipe which replaces the egr assembly. Then put an egr block on the manifold and then plug the vacuum pipe.

JMG
From reading up on forums and other sites you can just block the EGR value with a plate. Mixed reviews on the gains of doing it.
Dblock
From reading up on forums and other sites you can just block the EGR value with a plate. Mixed reviews on the gains of doing it.100% worth doing. It's not just from adding power or making the car more efficient (which it does). It is mainly preventative maintenance. Basically the oil vapors from the CCV (elephant mod recommended) coat the pipe with oil and then the hot soot sticks to it from the egr. Over time it builds up into this.
