Need info on retro fitting alarm system

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone may know what I would need to fit the gti alarm sensor/lights and siren etc.

Any information upon this and alarm systems in general that may help will be overly appreciated. I'd love to do topic on it for others when it is done.

I currently have standard central locking with aftermarket remote. I also have mk4 switch visors with the vanity lights and rear two sensor lights. Sadly didnt get the main centre light as I'm an idiot

Hoping maybe a Gti member may know or even skezza as I know he's pretty sh-hot on elec and tech

For the oem fit I have found that you need

Ccm

sensors

alarmed deadlocks (doors bot and possibly bonnet)

Remote key coding

siren

interior switch

Possibility for complete closure through the remote key

I'm not sure on wiring as of yet but that could all become aparant later on

CCM - Dash out job. Not particularly pleasant. GeoffD (Sophie's dad) has fitted an uprated CCM which supports OEM remote central locking but I'm pretty sure he said it wasn't much fun. I'd send him a PM because he isn't on here as much anymore due to some eyesight issues he is currently having, I believe.

I don't know much about the sensors so can't really judge that.

The deadlocks are standard on any S Lupo. I assume alarmed deadlocks mean the opening the handle from the inside would trigger the alarm whereas on a non-alarm model, you would simply be unable to get the door open. Not sure about the bonnet. Thinking about it logically, the standard lock mechs support deadlock, so you need to find out whether it's a specialist lock mech or whether it's simply taking the signal from the lock that an attempt to open the door has been opened and then the ECU triggers the alarm, probably the second if I'm honest.

Getting your remote key coded isn't too much of a big deal, VAG-COM job. Nothing big, although don't forget you'll need to get the immobilizer chip coded as well and this requires your SKU, so VAG-TACHO etc.

The interior switch is located in the back isn't it? I forget what it looks tbh.

Wiring is all loom based mate, buy the CCM, the looms (probably from somewhere like eBay or Kufatec), and it should all go together fairly easily, although you'll need a few more fuses for the alarm and sensors, sirens etc.

Aftermarket would be, hmm, easier to say the least, you should be able to drive it off OEM wiring rather than adding a lead to the battery which would be easy to disarm. Plus, you could get some extra cool features on an aftermarket like GPS tracking, kill-switches and all that ****. Many of the aftermarket alarms also support a manual immobilizer, which really is the ultimate kill switch, so when you get in your car, it will not start without activating thus switch.

Have a think anyway, OEM is doable, it's just hard work. Aftermarket is easier, but it's aftermarket... so not quite as much of that OEM+ goodness.

It was more that I had the lights with ther sensors already that I wanted to do an oem + there being a passat in my local that may have the rest. I saw on mkiv.net that the bonnet release has a micro swith but they are not all wired in to the car. Its the oem thing I'm looking for as its just finding what ccm I will need. Depends whether a passat one will work in the lupo (windows, cl, etc. ?)

I would go after market if I didnt thjnk I could handle this install. Although saying that no one so far has mentioned vag tacho until now. :s

Whats the sku? I feel like I've missed something

I love this help so far and I am really excited to get stuck in.

Would it be worth loking for a lupo gti ccm as they use one of the light sensors I have and have an alarm switch under the passenger seat/ b pillar area

Actually, thinking about it, you won't need to adapt unless your swapping your key? Are you planning on installing OEM remote central locking as well? Basically, if you switch key, you will need to adapt it either via manual (switching transponder) or software (adapting new transponder).

As far as jobs go, there's no reason you couldn't do this.
