My Car Diary

  1. Good afternoon, First time poster here since buying my Lupo. I am looking for advice on alloy wheel fitment. So my lupo needs 3 tyres replacing but instead of replacing them I have a set of 15 inch alloy wheels with tyres on that have only been driven 200 miles maximum. The alloys I have are of a mk3 golf vr6 (I have 4x100 to 5x100 adapters) so they will fit interms of pcd and centre bore as far as I'm aware. The tyre size on them are 195/45/15 and the car is on coilovers. So with the 195 45 15 tyres and the alloy specs are 6.5Jx15 ET43. Two questions I have are: Will they fit? Will there be a clearance issue in the arches? I look forward to your replys and expertise Kind regards Jordan Ps. I have attached a picture of the very same alloy wheels and my car.
  2. I have now accumulated no less than five steering wheels for my Gti and need to reclaim some storage space! So I’m offering the Gti wheel I commissioned from RSW Re-Trimming Ltd last year. Details are as follows: Genuine original equipment Gti wheel Rim thickened and thumb grips added Rim bottom flattened Recovered in smooth black leather with red stitching I fitted this in April 2019 and it was in use on my Gti for just 10 months, with 4,000 miles only covered. Condition is excellent, evidencing the very minimal usage I’m offering this – wheel rim/hub only, not including the centre pad/airbag-see pic 03-04-2019 – at less than half what it cost me. Internal UK Postage will be additional, at £15 Located in East Kent £105
  3. Hi all, need to replace the front and rear wheel bearings on my Lupo. Any links and prices? Cheers, Luke
  4. Wondering if anyone else has any experience with swapping out the original Lupo steering wheel with a golf one. Is it as simple as taking the current one off, and putting a golf one on? Or are there any hacks that need to be in place for this to be feasible? Any information will be helpful!!
  5. Hi there, I need help with a very loud and distressing wheel speed noise. It's there wether in gear or not, only with the wheels turning. Clutching has no effect on it. It sounds, as far as I can tell (and a couple of different passengers) to be coming from the front passenger side wheel, with some vibration noticeable through the foot well. I've had the front up and listened with a Dowell while the wheels are driving, and the gearbox and drivers side knuckle make a kind of sshsshssh noise which I would associate with dry or very slightly worn bearings. While the passenger side knuckle makes a crunchy clunkey noise. Thing is that I've now changed the p side bearing twice, and the knuckle (I scragged the original) and drive shaft with no definite change. having done the bearing both times found the hub nut not tightened all the way after a few miles, despite Having wound the Bearing in with a puller and torqued up the nut. Car is 2001, 115k and the noise was audible but mild 10k ago and now is incredibly insistent. I need Help as I'm about to drive from Somerset to Wales, towing 700k, and don't want a failure on route. Or a catastrophic gearbox failure. And would love to take it to 200+k I guess I'm asking what it might be, or what I did wrong fitting the bearings to cause them to fail prematurely (10's or hundreds of miles) fag bearings All help greatly appreciated, any questions just ask. I could make a recording but when I have the exhaust shielding rattle and console squeak largely drowns it out. Thanking you kindly, Joshhert
  6. Will 15'' ET45 57.1mm 6J alloys fit a 1L lupo/arosa? And what tyre size would be the best? The car isn't lowered. Cheers!
  7. As you can probably tell, no one is bothered about modifying their fox any more what i think is a huge shame. I have had mine for a few months now and am not a fan of the stock steering wheel but i really like the Lupo one. Question is does anyone know if it will fit the Fox? And if you have one for sale how much would you want for it? Thanks, Chris.
  8. I brought a lupo 1.4mpi so I'm new to the vag scene, I'm thinking about buying some 3sdm alloys to fit my mr bean lupo, it's sitting at standard ride height at the moment! What wheels do people recommend Follow me on Instagram to see how the project goes @sqashy2102
  9. will a vw up steering wheel fit into a lupo as I've seen one that i really want and don't want to buy it for it not to fit
  10. hi, i am a new member looking to upgrade from the standard lupo steering wheel,i want to try and put in a up flat bottom steering wheel but a, unsure if it will fit, can anyone help?
  11. I'm looking for some information on the sport model boot well/spare wheel. When i bought my sport it had already passed through the hands of a few modders and thus was somewhat violated, the spare wheel never sat right and there was a visible bulge in the boot carpet, i suspected that the pad underneath was an incorrect part: This is the part from a NON-sport model - part number: 6H0601125A I believe the sport model may have a different part number but i cannot find any information online anywhere. If somebody could please post a series of pictures detailing how the sport space saver sits inside the boot and how the carpet is seated i'll give you a metaphorical cookie and a pat on the back. Cheers.
  12. hello, so im looking at buying some new rims (Axe ex8's) they have a 30mm offsett so im looking for an 8mm spacer to get the rims back to standard fitment. does anyone know where i can get longer bolts or if i even need to get any? thanks, Jason
  13. hey guys, my front wheel bearing is making a god awful racket. i think its the front passenger bearing. I've heard that changing them can be a bit of a job, is it better to replace the bearing or buy a new hub with the bearing already in? Also, if its easier to buy a hub, any ideas where from? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Adam Picture of the car if anyone is interested http://i.imgur.com/FkF2yq3.jpg

  15. What would be a good size tire for 14x5 wheel? Something not to chunky preferably. Thanks
  16. My BBS RZ's are in need of a refurb and powder coat. After having a browse around the web I noticed prices vary from £30-£60 a wheel. What's a good price for a job like that? and does anyone know of someone who can do it privately?
  17. Was thinking of getting 5-10mm wheel spacers but my dads told me that it's not a good idea and it may lead to some problems. What are the Pros and Cons? Are there any troubles that may come about with wheel spacers? Cheers Chris
  18. I picked up these wheels a few months ago and after stripping off many different layers of paint including white, grey, orange, green and blue i decided to go ahead and get them acid dipped just to be sure! The dishes have a few scratches that mostly i have been able to sand out but there are still a few tiny marks that are hardly noticable. (although i know they are there so they will annoy me!) The centre caps are very damaged so will have to purchase some new ones! Heres some pictures of my progress! Paint stripping a month or so ago.. Today: Its a beautiful day to be getting on with prepping my dishes for polish whilst topping up my tan! i am aware i have dirty legs, its a messy job! Heres a little 'before' pic of the dishes before sanding. although they arnt finished they look alot better! Il keep you guys updated of any progress!
  19. so i bought this new steering wheel to put on the ratty batty but i can't get the old one off, there are three screws at each point on the back of the steering wheel, i went out and bought the right star bit and a new ratchet to get it off but still no such luck, they just seem to be spinning... is there any other way of getting it off? :/
  20. Hi everyone, quick question... Whats the maximum wheel width i can go to without having to roll the arches? Thanks for any replies, TD.
  21. Alright guys, Just looking for some help / advice on fitting a Mountney traditional wheel, Any help will me massively appreciated! Right, I've bought a traditional Mountney GT steering wheel. The wheel wont fit onto a Momo boss as the PCD is a lot bigger and Mountney don't make a boss that fits straight onto a Lupo. I was looking at the traditional boss here (for a Mk2 Golf) and I noticed that in the description that is says that with the removal of the spline adapter, the boss could fit on later models of the golf. Now i've read that some of the later models of golf wheels will fit in the Lupo with slight modification to the slip ring. Am I right in thinking that if the boss fits later golfs and later golf wheels fit the Lupo, Does that mean the boss could fit in the Lupo with a bit of work? Or is it not that simple and its going to be loads of work? Thanks Heres a poor quality picture of the wheel
  22. Hi there! I'm new to the forum and in desperate need of some help. My seat arosa appears to have developed some kind of high pitched whine noise. Originally I thought this was either coming from the alternator or a loose belt, however I've had a local mechanic check it, who gave it a quick once over and said he couldn't find the root of the cause. The car only has 30k on the clock so he thinks it couldn't be anything major? His idea was that it was either coming from the wheel bearings or drive shaft, however he put the car up on the ramp, gave it a good look, span the wheels and couldn't find the issue. The noise appears when I reach around 30MPH and increases in pitch the faster I drive. I can drop the car out of gear whilst on a national and the noise will still appear, and only decreases as the car slows. The noise also stays at the same pitch whilst I change gears. Please please could someone give an opinion on what they think this annoying noise is?! Here's a recording of it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVowCScO8_c Thanks for your help! Car Spec: Seat Arosa (2000 W Reg) 30K on clock 1.0 MPI
  23. My spare wheel isn't sitting right in the well and is bulging through the boot liner, is anybody able to get a picture of how it is meant to be because i just cant figure out what is wrong?
  24. Does anybody know where I can get bolt on arches like these from?
