  1. Can anybody on here point me in the direction of anyone who can deal with gearboxes for a 1.7sdi, either to rebuild the one I have or source a replacement? Driving to a race track yesterday the box became particularly unhappy sounding when coating without the clutch in, happens in 1st and 2nd and the same noise has now spread to 3rd gear. Clutch in, out of gear and 4th and reverse seem to produce no whining, so I fear I've lost main bearings or something along that route in the gearbox. It still selects just fine, but driving it is likely to end in the inevitable loss of probably everything. I've been quoted around £1000 to have the box out, another box thats on ebay for £350 put in, along with a clutch and the labour, which I honestly can't really justify at this time. I've just put it through an MOT and at 183,000 miles its seen quite the life as my first and only car for the last 6 years. As some may understand, I'd be quite devastated to have to let it go Can anybody point me in any less wallet crippling directions?
  2. Hi all, Recently I had to remove my gear knob from my VW Lupo 1.4 Automatic in order to remove the centre console. Whilst putting the car back together, however, my gear knob button is jammed about half way into the gear knob and out; when installing back onto my car the button is jammed in said position and thus not allowing me to change gears in the car. Has anyone else had this issue before and knows the solution/do I need to buy a new gear knob? I'm unable to find any information regarding the Lupo specifically online, but all of the tutorials online show the cars "swapping auto gear knobs" which is helpful: but, when they release the selector itself the rod allowing the car to change gear needs to be pressed down, whereas in the Lupo it needs to be pulled up in order to change gear. Many Thanks in advance.
  3. Hi all, Was curious if anyone has attempted a project similar to this before: raising a Lupo. When the Volkswagen Lupo was announced many years back I was disappointed that no "cross" version of the vehicle was ever made, as the VW Golf Country Mk2 looked (and still looks) amazing - even if it was built in limited numbers. So, the intent of this project would be to produce a VW Lupo which looks similar to the VW Golf Country Mk2 and fulfills a similar purpose. Of course, this is a very early concept and something I quickly whipped up in Microsoft paint but this would be something similar to the final design if said project was ever to be started. To start, the vehicle would be given a DSG Gearbox from perhaps a VW Golf Mk5/6/7 to assist in driving through the United Kingdom. The proposed engines can be seen below, as you notice the displacement does not go above 1.4L, this is due to a multiple of reasons including: insurance, emission laws, fuel economy, and longevity of the project. Atop of this, I assume installing a 1.4L engine into a 1.4L car is not as difficult as perhaps swapping a 1.8L into a Lupo; though with no experience I could be wrong. Most likely, the Volkswagen Golf Mk7 1.4L TSI R-Line (150bhp) engine and 7 speed DSG will be used; this is to increase the longevity of the car as a VW Lupo in perfect (or near perfect) body condition with a (roughly) 3 year old engine and transmission will likely last for atleast another 5 years. if this project was to either begin, as well, the car would be looked after extensively to ensure its longevity. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of the vehicle would be the external roll cage and Mercedes-Benz G-Class wheel guards, said guards would roughly increase the width of the vehicle by 120mm each side (*note, not finalised). The roll cage would be attached to the vehicle at several points (as seen in the pictures below, in lime green), the two attachments in the roof are intended to form inner roll cages and connect to the floor of the car (the Chassis) for additional rigidity and support. Atop of this, the G-Class style dual side exit exhausts would also be present on the vehicle because... 😄 and a car snorkel would also be fitted. A roof rack would also be added to the vehicle, holding either an LED bar of lights or Circular LED lights similar to the front of the Lupo. The car would also have a ladder on the back to access the roof rack more easily (even if you can just jump it 😅) . The cars suspension would also need to be altered to accommodate the weight, the minimum ground clearance of the vehicle would be 5" and the proposed vehicle would not be fitted by hydraulic suspension; nor would the vehicle be fitted with 4WD (unlike the Golf Country) due to budget constraints. Cosmetically, the car would be receive the words "Lupo" on the rear similar to how the words "Golf" appear on the new Volkswagen Golf Mk8. The front of the car would receive the "mean" eyes and badgeless front end; however, the badge would still be mounted onto the bonnet of the car in a way similar to that of the Volkswagen Scirocco Mk3. The badges, of course, would all be blacked out and the car would be painted Audi Nardo Grey. The roll cages would be painted BMW Protonic Red. The brake calipers would be painted gold. The brake lights of the car would be custom made, however this is not finalised. The rear seats of the car may be removed to accommodate additional storage for when you want to go camping etc. The spare tire storage area would be removed for further storage and, when needed, (i.e. not around town) a spare tire can be held by the roof rack. The G-Class wheel guards would also have indicators on them, these would be in an as yet finalised design - but most likely be similar to that of the G-Class bonnet indicators, but placed on the guards instead. Whilst I understand this isn't the traditional or "go-to" Lupo modification, I just thought it would be fun: whether or not I, or anyone else, attempts such a modification I just wanted to get his out of my system lol. Atop of this, the vehicle originally was to become 4WD, have a DSG transmission, and a decent engine - when roughly adding up the costs the car soon exceeded £10000: which is out of my budget. As a result, the more realistic approach would be to keep the car as front wheel drive and make the roll cage myself to save on most of this projects costs. Regardless though, I hope you enjoyed my take on a Volkswagen Lupo Country. *Note* and I understand that some of the images and diagrams I have used are not accurate, but they are their to simple estimate costs/sizes and are temporary: once the project officially begins I will document all changes to the car thoroughly.
  4. Can the lupo 1.4 sport (100bhp) parts such as the cams and aftermarket manifolds end exhausts fit on the 1.4 S (75bhp)?
  5. Hi I have a vw lupo which is leaking through the passenger door. We've took the door cards off and poured water down the window and there's a lot of water coming through but we've changed the window seal and it's still doing the same. We are at a loss. Please help
  6. Hello, my VW Lupo 1.4 TDI currently has a gearbox problem and I am not sure what I need to do to fix it, the gears all work fine once it is in gear but it doesn’t want to go into gear and I end up searching for the gears, going up the gears is easier but when you want to downshift it really struggles to get into gear, I’m really hoping I don’t need a new gearbox, I’ve been told it might be todo with the clutch, but at this point I am looking for any advice or suggestions on what to try, thanks in advance
  7. Hi all, I was wondering if any of you have put different dash buttons/switches into your VW Lupo's, and if so which ones actually fit. I've seen some people suggest that a VW Golf (Mk4) has the same dash, and therefore button dimensions as a Lupo; I was wondering if this was true. Atop of this, what other vehicles - if any - share the same dash switch dimensions as the VW Lupo. Many Thanks
  8. Hi All, I was wondering if any of you have replaced, or added, a USB port into your VW Lupo's. My Lupo currently has 1 of the 5 possible buttons/switches being used (which is for heating the rear window) and I was looking at installing a USB switch their, I was wondering if any of you have done such a task before and what I would need to do so: (i.e.) what switch I need, what tools, etc. Many Thanks
  9. Hi All, I was wondering if anyone had ever modded a VW Lupo to turn it into a 4x4. I'm not sure why I'm eve thinking about this to be honest, but I was doing some research and the Fiat Panda and VW Lupo are almost have the same chassis length (by about 30mm, 3cm, or so) - meaning a conversion wouldn't be too hard: just very expensive. Atop of this, when I was thinking of this idea I imagined the VW Lupo as something like a G-Wagen. A huge, raised, truck - but it's just a Lupo. I mean, back in the day a Fiat Panda (1) (1980) had just 59bhp and was a good 4x4 - so keeping a 1.4 (75bhp) or Sport (100bhp) or even a GTI (125bhp) VW Lupo engine should be enough for a 4x4 conversion - however, the weight would increase due to this proposed modification. Literally had a dream about this, so ignore my MS Paint master piece 👌 and I know it's a bit silly but I thought it would be a bit of fun. What do you think? (Basically the VW CrossLupo we never got)
  10. This is my Volkswagen Lupo, it's a 3D 1L, 2003 painted yellow. This is what it looked like when I first bought it. However it did not stay the this way. My dad works in a garage on the island and so of course did some work on it for me. He painted the bumpers, fitted brand new gear cables, put four coats of polish on and a new grille, took out the dents and a few other bits and pieces. This is the finished piece, needless to say I love it, especially for a first car. Of course, being the lunatic that I am. I decided to go off-roading with a couple of my buddies. And I'm sure you're all aware that these cars are not mean't for driving off-road. I didn't cause too much damage, just smashed the rear brake light, and scraped some of the fresh new paint work. I am going to be repairing it after Christmas, in the meantime I'm getting a few appearance upgrades such as a new seat trims, possibly a black VW badge, and adding some more decals.
  11. I noticed all 3 of my brake lights have gone on my 2003 1.0 VW Lupo. So instantly thinking it's the switch. Have replaced the switch and they still don't work. Checked the fuse and they're fine. Just for good measure I replaced the bulbs and still don't work. What else could it be??? Can anyone help?
  12. Hi everyone my names Kelly, I have a yellow Lupo 1.4s that I love dearly. However I've had it many many years now and I no longer have a need for a car. I wanted the car to go to a loved home. Someone who would give it some TLC that it needs and value it. I'm new to this club and am not actually sure if your allowed to sell cars on here so I apologise now if that's not allowed. Like I said I wanted to reach out to people who love lupos as much as me and who maybe wanted a new project to work on. If anyone's interested in purchasing it please get in touch and we can talk more about it. Best wishes.

I'm thinking of getting mudflaps for my lupo and I'm wondering if I have to bodge these on (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mudflaps-VW-JETTA-LUPO-PASSAT-POLO-VENTO-mud-flaps-/270403907889?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3ef5543131) or if I can get some which I don't have to bodge.

  19. Hi guys, Was wondering as the speedometer on the vw lupo tdi is a bit broken at the moment and I was trying to find another one to replace it. There are none for sale at the moment but there are many polo tdi clocks for sale. Is it possible to use a polo tdi clock in a vw lupo of the same year, they are both identical except the polo speedometer goes to 140 instead of 120, will this be an issue? Tried to research but couldnt find much about it. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance and take it easy
