  1. Hi there! I'm new to the forum and in desperate need of some help. My seat arosa appears to have developed some kind of high pitched whine noise. Originally I thought this was either coming from the alternator or a loose belt, however I've had a local mechanic check it, who gave it a quick once over and said he couldn't find the root of the cause. The car only has 30k on the clock so he thinks it couldn't be anything major? His idea was that it was either coming from the wheel bearings or drive shaft, however he put the car up on the ramp, gave it a good look, span the wheels and couldn't find the issue. The noise appears when I reach around 30MPH and increases in pitch the faster I drive. I can drop the car out of gear whilst on a national and the noise will still appear, and only decreases as the car slows. The noise also stays at the same pitch whilst I change gears. Please please could someone give an opinion on what they think this annoying noise is?! Here's a recording of it : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVowCScO8_c Thanks for your help! Car Spec: Seat Arosa (2000 W Reg) 30K on clock 1.0 MPI
  2. Hi, i'm new to the forum and was hoping to get some help on a few problems i'm having on my arosa. The Car: Mk1 'T' reg arosa, 1 litre, 95,000 miles have been noticing a wearing / whining noise coming from the gearbox when gearing down into first or second but didn't think anything of it and now the whining is happening between 30 and 70 in fifth. The noise disappears when i put the clutch down, so i suspect its something to do with the clutch or gearbox; have changed the gearbox oil but has made no difference. And have check the wheel bearing and all seems good. My brother had a 6n2 1 litre polo which made a similar noise and turned out it was the thrust release bearing on the clutch, could that be the same problem? Has anyone had the same problem or could shed some light on it? Thanks.
  3. My GTI has developed a whirring noise, as in it goes "whir whir whir whir", as opposed to a constant whine. It's not a normal gearbox whine, as it makes the noise when coasting in neutral, but can only be heard at certain speeds. When you increase speed the pitch doesnt change, but the the spaces between the 'whirs' get closer together. It is more noticeable at lower speeds i.e. 30 below and different road surfaces seem to change the volume. It can be felt through the floor at certain speeds (when it's at its loudest) Now, if it were the gearbox, would the noise still be present in neatrual? This is what makes me think its a wheel bearing. However, there is no play in the wheel bearings!
