  1. Hi, my odometer display on the dashboard is broken and has been since I bought the car 3 years ago. As this was my first car I didn't care too much but now am looking closer to selling it and I have no idea what my mileage is. Does anyone know how to fix it or is there any other way to fix it? The local garage is charging £80 just to have a look and not promising if they can fix it. Thanks for any help
  2. Hi guys. I have had an 2001 Arosa 1.4 16V sport since 2011 and the speedo has died, it was erratic for a time and then completely died. I have checked the speedo drive gear which goes inside the gearbox and the spindle is rotating in an erratic fashion, it turns and stops for a second etc, if I put my finger on the exposed top I can stop it from rotating completely with a tiny bit of pressure, you can feel it bite sligtly and then slip. This was a recon gearbox back in early 2013. I have removed the drive gear, see attached for what it looks like (no damage that I can see) although there is very slight scoring on the end as you can see. I'm guessing the nylon gear on the final drive ring gear has worn away? How much of a ball ache is it to split the box on these and is it worth it? Thanks for any help.
  3. Hi I have a 2002 Lupo 1.4 SE and I decided to take the dash apart as the handbrake warning light was very dim, once i took it apart and saw nothing wrong i then put it back together making sure not to move the needles on the dashboard. once I had put the whole dash back together i plugged the two clips back in and the speedo dropped below 0MPH and is currently pointing at near the mileage and trip, however the rev counter was working so i thought maybe after a 15 minute drive it would sort it out, however this was not the case. the speedo does move its just not giving the correct reading and now the rev counter is stuck at 5000 RPM when the engine is not revving that high. I've tried taking it apart and checking that the plugs are clean and clipping in correctly and it all seems to be fine but the dials are still incorrect. I'd like to note that everything else on the dash seems to be working fine apart from the still dimly lit handbrake warning light. Any help or advice would be appreciated as the MOT is booked for Tuesday (22.Nov) Thanks
  4. I've got a mk2 Arosa, which has been probably my fav ever car, but I've started to get a lot of things go wrong with it over the last few months... One is the speedo not working. It did start getting intermediate, then stopped completely Plugged it into a code reading program on my laptop - no codes. Also real time metrics would show rpm, etc.. but nothing for speed, so I thought it must be the gearbox sensor. Got a replacement sensor from Seat which I managed to pull apart and drop into the engine bay - d'oh! Bought another off ebay, and swapped it out as well as cleaning up the contacts - no joy. Checked the gear that goes into the gearbox was still on it's shaft, and it was. Took it to Seat and asked them to diognose what was wrong with it. They said the dial cluster was faulty, and would be £450 off quid. Told them to leave it alone, and got some 2nd hand dials off ebay. Tried taking the old dials out and cleaning the contacts to the blocks at the back, made no difference. Fitted the replacement ebay dials - and the same problem. The rev counter, fuel, guage, etc... all work, but still nothing from the speedo. They look like they are from a petrol model as they have the 7k rev limit, but if the rest work, the speedo should as well, right? So now im kinda stuck - it MUST be the speedo sensor? and I the ebay one, must have been a dud? Pic of it in happier days: http://smg.photobucket.com/user/sarkie83/media/IMG_0023.jpg Thanks, Kieran
  5. I'm wanting to change the speedo and binnacle cover in my lupo. Are the polo and lupo speedo and binnacle the same? Cheers in advance Kailum.
  6. Hi, I'm looking at lupos at the moment, was just hoping someone could clarify if this is normal for the rev dials: Not sure if you can see, but the rev counter isn't actually on zero, its above zero but slightly below ten. I've seen several lupos with this, and just hoping someone can tell me if it's normal or something to walk away from. Thankyou!
  7. Hi all, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to tyres, I'm currently running 175/65/r13 (standard on most lupo's) and I want to put 15" alloys on with a 195/45/r15 tyre. Question is, will I need to correct my speedo? If so, does anyone know anywhere that would do it? Many thanks people! TD
  8. Does the Speedo on a lupo 1.0 go off the wheel or the transmission? If I put bigger wheels on will they effect my the speedo?
