  1. I recently fitted some popout windows to my arosa and today I started raining so I took the opportunity to check for leaks and I found some! How do i fix it? Can't exactly just screw the windows on tighter.
  2. Hi, Suddenly have a soaking drivers side carpet - The chamber below the windscreen is clear and no water coming in through the heater or anything.....There is a lot of water, but no damp doors or rear panels etc.....So, that suggests from underneath? Any known points? The rubber bungs at a glance look pretty good down the undersides, but havent really had a chance to get in for a closer look. There was a lot of rain this weekend, so, I am still not ruling out a leak from above too.....So, any possible pointers ? I know water can be a git....... Luckily, I have a garage and dont need the car, so can get it under cover, seats out and carpets up to stop the smell getting in etc.....but yeah, need to work out the culprit......Grateful for any pointers....thanks
  3. Just a quick post.... I was having lots of trouble with water getting in my passenger footwell for ages until I realised the problem... This is a post for everyone else to consider when they are searching for a water leak problem! Basicaly, When the door speakers were mounted to the cars from new, they used rivets and the back of the mooting plates were SEALED to the inside of the door. This prevents the water that is designed to get into the door, coming in the car and simply drains out the holes in the bottom of the door. So when you get your lovely Lupo and someone (the previous owner to mine) has decided to put some s**t aftermarket c**py speakers in instead, make sure you check they're nicely fitted and sealed in some form... Its also not good to use MDF for adaptor plates, as they love water and then your car will be damp... use plastic. Or just get some of the original speakers and fit them, which is what I intend to do! The other benefit of the originals is they had some protection on the back to stop the rear connections going rusty and corroded. Makes me sad that the previous owner also used wood screws to fit his speakers whats wrong with people like that! Hope this helps.
  4. At the seam of the head to the bottom of the engine there is a significant seeping of fluid. (Think it is oil but not sure if just darkened coolant) The engine over heats. And I am servicing the camel soon and waterpump checking ther most at and the fan for low speeds. And hoping it may help But I'm pretty sure enough damage is done. With doing a compression test, would it just tell me that there is a problem of would it show towards one way or another? If the head needs skimming will this affect the injectors as they are built in. Hoping for rich (edit from rick. Stupid auto correct), d block, tdi owners or anyone who can help to chime in.
  5. Hi There, I have an Lupo Sport engine code AUB with an ETB gearbox. My car has just been into VW for some diagnostics into a oil leak and they have told me that my gearbox is leaking. The selector shaft is damaged and is wearing through the seal. i have had the seal changed but still leaking. The car has only done 22,000 miles!! VW have told me that i need a new gearbox and quoted me over £3000!. so i have tried looking for a second hand gearbox on ebay etc. I cant seem to find an ETB gearbox, just the ETD from the 1.4s. My question is, Will the ETD gearbox fit my Lupo sport? Thanks Jack
  6. Hi Guys, I really need a hand with this. Got Arosa TDI which is lowered, and have managed to damage the fuel heat dissapator underneath. Found the part number (6n0201895 in case anyone needs it) but Perrys say it's discontinued And VW have no stock. Now the local salvage place has one from a 9n polo 1.4 tdi. Does anyone know if this will fit? Any help would be great
  7. Hi Can anyone tell me how hard it is to remove the glass sunroof? My other half's 2000 Sport doused her in water the other day from behind the headlining . It was the sunroof drain grommets in the A pillars, bunged solid. Had to take them off to wash them out (and to get the water to drian with a big gurgle). This means that to reattach them, I think I'll need to get at the top end to get enough free play. I need to do that anyway, as the sunroof is stiff, and doesn't close properly unless you help it, so I guess it needs cleaning and lubricating. Damned VW, it's only 13 years old... Does the headlining need to come out? I can't see fixings from above. Found this, which might be useful. I have the ELSAWin manuals somewhere, but not sure where, so any help appreciated. Chris
  8. Had my Lupo up on a ramp the other day at work whilst changing the oil. Noticed that my Mesh coupling next to my cat converter was a little stained. We fired up the engine and found it was leaking a little gas.. guess its only going to get worse. (also, MOT Failure???) Has anyone had this and what's the best way to resolve it, Its a complete unit to replace, with the cat converter its about £80, so not as much as most but i'm thinking i might not have to... Maybe just cut it off and weld a new one on? Found this website, couldn't believe the name either! http://www.made-in-china.com/products-search/hot-china-products/flexible_exhaust_pipe.html Theres no type of flexible mesh seal i can put on it? Thanks
  9. I've long loved my lupo. A couple of weeks back i was thinking about how its never had any problems, i've only ever repaired a handful of stupid little problems! Its done just over 100,000 miles, its a 1.4 Lupo E. Suddenly bam! Upon driving to work the car started juddering madly, i immediately started to blame the clutch but then i noticed the speedo was fluctuating all over the place, randomly alongside the juddering. The revs stayed steady, which seemed very strange. Taking the car out of gear i rolled to a stop, it started to judder again as i pulled away, and does now, more noticeably with lower revs. The clutch is fairly new, we tested it and it stalled the engine with the handbrake test really effectively. The bite point is normal too. My car has always had a little oil around the leftmost spark plug. I always thought this was from where i spilt a little oil around when topping up. A week ago i changed the oil and filter and cleaned it up. When the car starting this juddering i had a look under the bonnet and found this was actually a leak. I thought this could explain the juddering, the engine cylinder misfiring. I changed the spark plugs over, they were well past their sell by date, black and the leftmost one was oily. I brought some new ones and upon firing the engine up, loads of black smoke which cleared very quickly. The car was absolutely fine for a week! It answered my questions about the juddering and felt more powerful and efficient than ever, the speedo ran totally as normal too. However yesterday when driving home the juddering returned. Some oil has leaked too around the first spark plug and must be misfiring again. It now normally starts after a few minutes of driving. I'm going to take it to work for a compression as soon as i can. Can anyone shed any light on the source of this leak? Piston rings? Rocker gasket? Valve washers? Its whats causing this leak i'm sure, changing the spark plugs just brought me some time! Thanks everyone, i appreciate it.
  10. Hey guys, My Lupo seems to be loosing oil, i am needing to top up every month! I dont get any smoke on start up but when i put my foot down i do get quite a bit of white smoke from the exhaust!? I only do about 200miles a month and it has 20,000 on the clock. My last service indicated that there was no leaks but the engine must be burning oil? I have just spoke to my VW dealer and they have told me to book it in for diagnostics this week which is going to cost £115!! Any ideas what the problem might be? Would really like to avoid the cost of the diagnostics :s Thanks Jack
  11. Hello all, New to the site and new to car ownership. Have a 1.4 petrol, 3 dr Lupo with the full length sunroof. Its a canopy style and retracts automatically from a control on the dashboard. Have found recently that after heavy rain, the guides for the rollers on the sunroof fill up with water, so that when you start the engine, it leaks through the roof onto your lap! Don't have a manual for this car (2001 model) and can't find any drains, scuppers, or rubber nozzles anywhere.... Can anyone suggest how to fix this problem, or where the drains might be hidden? Thanks!!
  12. Hi everyone I bought my girlfriend a 1999 SDi 1.7 lupo about a month ago for what i thought was a bargain price. I thought at the time 'I'll spend the next 2 weeks discovering why it was so cheap' now we know ! it's pretty though ok , having repaired both lock mechanisms with the usual ebay kits replaced the clutch and gear gate rod tightened up the loose pendulum support ... I'm left with : a flashing red exclamation brake warning lamp on the dash : comes on when I hit 10 mph accompanied by 3 bleeps fluid level looks ok, front pads plenty wear left (any sensors on the rear drums ?) only mystery is a plastic pipe leaving the top pf the brake fluid reservoir that's had a metal tube crimped off to block it ! what should that have instead ? I've looked on elsawin and can't see any diagram of the fluid reservoir) anybody want to help a newby who's stumped ? cheers !
