  1. Hi, everybody! I'm quite the new beginner when it comes to what's going on under the hood of a car, so it's been quite hard finding topics referring to my problem, since I don't know what the parts do or are called. Although, worth mentioning is that I don't mind getting my hands dirty and I prefer hands on learning. So here's my story: I've owned my Lupo for almost two years now and I've had a few problems during this time. Nothing big though and it's always run smoothly. The car has gone 210 000 km, which is about 130 000 miles, so it's probably on the bad side of the human 50's, I guess, considering physical condition, of course. About two months ago I lost my acceleration, basically. At first I thought that the car was a bit slow but then I reached "Åby-backen", which is a steep slope on the freeway, outside my hometown "Norrköping" and found that going uphill I could reach a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). I got passed by lorries and in order not to piss people off I had to stay at that speed for the rest of the ride. So, this is the state that my Lupo is in atm. I cracked up the hood and found some leads as to what was causing the turbo, I suppose, not to work. I'll show you what I'm talking about in some pictures but here's also a short text description. A major oil spillage revealed that a quite thick pipe had sprung loose. So I cleaned the engine quickly, jammed the pipe back in jumped in the car and drove off. Now everything was smooth sailing once again. But I was quite suspicious and rightfully so. I thought to myself that it shouldn't be that easy. Of course I wanted to try the acceleration off for real and here's where it happened. The pipe sprung loose once again and I could hear how the engine started to, I dunno how to put it but, roar in an unsatisfying way and I lost my acceleration once again. Now I thought that the problem was that the pipe was old and worn out so I made a Donald Duck kind of repair and used a pair of straps to fasten the pipe again. This worked for a few days but somehow it doesn't any longer. It's quite tight but still the pipe is pushed out. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with pressure rather than a screwed up pipe. Sorry for the long post. I hope you can look past that and help me in finding a solution to my problem. Thank you! Pictures> If you need to see more pictures just say and I'll post what you need.
  2. Engine code AUB I've just serviced the engine - new spark plugs, fuel, air, oil and cabin filters, topped off with shell helix 5W40 oil, i've also flushed the fuel system with red line fuel system cleaner and have been running it with premium JET fuel and Shell V-PowerI have removed and cleaned the EGR valveReplaced coil packReplaced HT leadsReplaced throttle bodyThrottle body aligned via VCDSNew batteryNO FAULT CODESProblems: The car doesn't start brilliant - turns over quite a few times before it fires upThere seems to be a flat spot when accelerating around 2k rpm sometimes, where it feels like all engine power just goes then comes back a moment laterLingering when the revs are coming downLag when revving - on my 1.4 non sport you can repeatedly bash the throttle and the revs will correspond. On the sport, if you bash the throttle the revs just mush around with no definition to themThe car is always noticeably smokey out of the exhaust regardless of the weather or how long the car has been runningThe car really struggles past 90mph, especially in 5th gear and if i'm giving it some, however it will happily cruise up to and past that speedIt seems as if when you have the accelerator pedal fully depressed and then ease it back a bit the car picks up a littleI know this engine is renowned for having throttle lag issued but it just seems that this is an abnormal amount of lag If anyone has had any of these problems and has managed to rectify them or just has any suggestions ill have a look into them as i'd like to get this car running 100% or near enough I've put a hell of a lot of effort (and money) into this car getting it roadworthy and running and ill be damned if i can't get it at least 90%
  3. Hello folks! Just thought i'd introduce myself as I've just bought an arosa tdi, and thought it's probably best I sign up to club lupo for all my small hatchback needs! So on the weekend just gone I took a trip up to Manchester to look at an Arosa Tdi, i'd been looking for a Tdi for ages, either lupo or arosa, and this one came up and at the right kind of price, so I thought, why the feck not go check it out. So after a nice two hour drive I was greeted with a nice canica blue tdi. Checked it over, took it out for a spin and thought, yeahh, I think i need this in my life. Pictures speak louder than words, so heres afew pics. With the weather being so shite i've not actually taken any of my own yet, so heres some I took from the advert that sold it to me. Gotta say though, you can really tell its a cheaper car than the lupos, everything does feel a tad cheap. So, issues i've figured out since buying it - the temp gauge has a mind of its own, it climbs up then drops, then stays dropped for ages, so it mostly shows no reading, any idea what this is? Temp sensor? - Ive got one main beam bulb thats gone - My drivers side electric window switch doesnt work, so i cant raise or lower windows from my side, apparently i just need a new switch (if anyones got one, please drop me a pm) - think its a tad too low as i keep scraping the belly pan or whatever its called, which now rattles like crazy when the cars idling I think thats pretty much it.. those are my initial things to fix, as well as anti rusting the arches. If anyones got any suggestions or comments, smack me up with them. Cheers, Jon.
