I am having problems with my starter not turning the engine properly, the symptoms are strange: It grinds but the flywheel if not damaged The power drops to 8v, sometimes cutting the power to the stereo loosing presets etc... After about 2 to 3 seconds of grinding noise the car turns and starts straight away. It is a re-manufactured bosch starter The battery is brand new and capable of 670amps After the car is started I can stop it and it starts fine every time after, then if I let it sit for an hour the same thing happens! I thought it would be the solenoid getting a little stuck but I don't think that the motor would spin then! Please help I am very confused

hello i'm new here and in need with some help? I'm looking for an white LED bulb to replace the existing interior one. When looking and reading things on here i got kinda confused :s What size bulb am i looking for and does it need to be canbus or not? Links would be nice? Thanks in advance, Kailum

hey i have a 1.4 lupo and i have notice it has been jumping out of 5th gear but no others there is no whinning noise or tht the only other thing i could say is that it make a crunching/grinding noise any ideas of what may be wrong?? thanks

Just bought myself a little 03 plate gti which I love! Having some intermittent problems with the lights. Somtimes when I turn the sidelights or headlights on, the passenger sidelights and rear lights do not come on. and sometimes i can switcht them off and on again, they come back on but then sometimes they dont!! have checked both fuses and they are fine. any common faults? I have also a problem with my indicators on the passenger side, where sometimes when the pull the indicator for the left hand turn signal, it will not work unless i pull it a little bit down (almost like the connection is not being made, but again like the other fault, it will sometimes work perfectly!!! Both faults could be linked?? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Rob

Hello, I am new to this and joined as I need help with my Lupo, My EGR Valve is stuck! I have took out all the screws and Bolts I believe that are holding it on, but it wont budge can anyone tell me how to get this to move? There are 2 more screws below the EGR Valve that are hard to access but I don't know if these need to come off! Any help would be greatly appreciated! Also if anyone can put pictures of the EGR Valve from there lupo on the website that could also help me. Thanks

Basically my car suddenly stopped working, if you go to fire it it cranks and does a very short burst as though it's about to fire but cuts out, I've had a few mechanics on it but none could find the problem, it's been in vw all week and they've finally put it down to the ecu, if you programme the immo to the ecu it will start but come back to it 5 minutes later and it will have forgotten it and need programming again, What I'm wondering is whether I could get a donor car which I've already sourced at a breakers, take the ecu, immo, transponder chips out of it and put them in mine and it just work with no programming needed and if will I need anything else aswell? Vw want £700-800 for the part and fitting which I can't afford expecially on top of the £300 I owe them for diagnostics Any help is much appreciated! -
Hello, I have a 99 1.4s lupo that has a fault with the locks. I've looked around the forums for similar problems but I can't find any with the exact same problem!!! Basically my central locking is f@%ked!!!! I put the key in the lock and turn it, the central locking clicks as it unlocks (I know the central locking is deactivated because my little red alarm light stops flashing next to the lock) but the little popper doesn't pop up and the handle doesn't open the door. I can then turn the key the other way to reactivate the central locking and alarm. Right now I have to unlock the cars central locking then take the key out and use it to open the boot, then I can crawl through the car and unlock my door from the inside (but this isn't very practical). Basically does anyone have an idea what I need to replace ? Barrel ? Spring in the barrel? Wires for the central locking ? Any help would be much appreciated!!!!

Hello, I've bought some Borbet A Reps 8j rears and 7j fronts et 15/20. I was wondering if anyone could be helpful and suggest some sensible tyre sizes, I'm after some stretch as otherwise I think I will struggle to get them in the arches... I need urgent help with my lupo e 1.0 today before I set off to work, I put my key in the ignition like normal went to start and it wouldn't it was just like ergh ergh ergh stop I was like **** so I waiting again and tried it didn't work, Then The Oil pressure light came on beeped and went off so I checked my oil and it was filled up to the mark i left it at before so I was like Whats wrong with, I then tried to start it again but this time i used the accelerator and vroom the lupo came to life and was running what sounding fine.. So I manged to get to work park up and then on my way to work I notice I have a loud like vibration when i trun right which I have no idea what it is as of yet, but when I went to start it after work it started up fine and my concern is could it be a starter motor or something? I need help ASAP as its what I want to be using for a year or more as a daily Thank you so much George.

So I want to buy a set of os4 jbw for the lupo.. But the et is et25 will they fit my 1litre lupo? Because it's say lupo et are 35 or something! Or would I need to do anything? Hi, I am looking at buying some coilovers for my Lupo but have two questions. 1) "JOM" or "FK AK Street" coilovers, pretty sure about FK's. I have seen them new for about £200ish but I have forgot where I saw them for that price and am now looking at £240 which now leads to my second question. 2) What website sell Fk Ak Coilovers for around £200. I just brought my first vw (a round of applause isn't necessary) and for now I've got about £600 to spend on it. It's a 1.4 1999 lupo s, I'm not 100% sure what the colour is called but I've heard it's fuchsia green? (Looks abit like kermit the frog). Other than fitting my stereo and sub it's completely stock! However some previous owner has kept the alloys and left me with steelies and hubcaps. So I need to know what is worth doing to kermit and what I should avoid. What kind of alloys should I get? Debadge or rebadge? Stickers no stickers? Lower? I welcome any suggestions! Cheers in advance.

Alright guys, I've done some searching and couldn't really come up with anything useful. Tomorrow i'm going to attempt to fit a new bumper to the car and I have no clue on how to remove the current one that is on the car, I'm going in blind. I would appreciate any tips / information on how to tackle it, where to start and where the screws and clips are located etc... I apologise if there is a blindingly obvious thread for this already Thanks

hello guys, I'm quite new to this, i have just brought a 1.0 lupo Se in black, as my first car, ive got a few mods lined up for it, one of these is fitting my new head unit and sub in my boot, i have brought a new sony mex-bt3900u head unit which works great, I've also got myself a nice vibe slice subwoofer and amp, I've managed to install the head unit easy, now it comes to the fitting of the sub, i have no idea how to run the Remote cable and the RCA cable from the back of my head unit so that it will come out in the passenger footwell so i can run them to my boot. could anyone help me with this. Pictures or diagrams of how to do this or whatever Thanks in advance Ben

Just a quick question, my friend has a Polo GTI air intake that he doesn't need any more and has offered it to put on my 1.4 16v Lupo, will it actually fit or will it fail horribly?

okay my lupo was running fine and its due an mot so ive done a quick service oil and filter change and new plugs but havent got any further because when i went to start it to circulate the new oil it just wont start, it will go to fire up but cuts out straight away, ive been looking at it with a mate who is a mechanic and has ben for over 20 years and he put it down to the coil pack which did need replacing as it was all corroding and cracked, put the new one on today and its still the same goes to start but cuts out, ive checked all the fuses included the ones on the battery and there all fine hooked it up to a code reader and first time a couple of codes came up but they were due to testing all the plugs and other things and trying to start it with them still disconnected but after erasing them all and doing another scan no codes are comeing up and its getting really confusing now as we cant quite figure it out and due to work havent had much chance to have a good few hours going over everything, and it does have fuel in it ive not overlooked that haha from what ive said if youve managed to follow it dos anybody have any suggestions or been through this themselves that might know what the problem is, it would help a lot if i knew a few things that it could definately be and go staright to checking them instead of blindly checking everything that it 'could' be any help would be much appreciated

my lupo as been sat for 4 months and recently after starting it and getting it ready for the road, after a while of the engine been running a horrible high pitched noise appears, anybody got any idea how i can fix the problem? thanks by the way i have a lupo 1.4s -
Hi guy and girls really need some help here .. I was sat a college today listening to music and my mate kicked the dash board its an after market radio and it just cut out .. I have been through the fuses and it had blown I swapped it over but the radio still didn't work I tryed a different head unit in the car and that didn't work .. i tryed both in another car and they worked fine so i grabbed the multi meter and checked the connections... i have 2 12v live feeds coming to it (should i ??) but it seems i have no switched 12v for some reason . it would be great if someone could help... Hi, so i'm looking to buy some coilovers and have been looking around at different ones and this is some that I have found in the budget range :- Jom Coilovers £189 Fk Ak Street £185 Ta Technix £189 then into the higher price being :- Ap Coilovers (straight from AP) £385 Fk Highsport £355 There are probably many others around but I have hear some bad reviews about different ones, was wondering if to spend a bit on some expensive ones or just get budget coilovers and if so what ones. I've long loved my lupo. A couple of weeks back i was thinking about how its never had any problems, i've only ever repaired a handful of stupid little problems! Its done just over 100,000 miles, its a 1.4 Lupo E. Suddenly bam! Upon driving to work the car started juddering madly, i immediately started to blame the clutch but then i noticed the speedo was fluctuating all over the place, randomly alongside the juddering. The revs stayed steady, which seemed very strange. Taking the car out of gear i rolled to a stop, it started to judder again as i pulled away, and does now, more noticeably with lower revs. The clutch is fairly new, we tested it and it stalled the engine with the handbrake test really effectively. The bite point is normal too. My car has always had a little oil around the leftmost spark plug. I always thought this was from where i spilt a little oil around when topping up. A week ago i changed the oil and filter and cleaned it up. When the car starting this juddering i had a look under the bonnet and found this was actually a leak. I thought this could explain the juddering, the engine cylinder misfiring. I changed the spark plugs over, they were well past their sell by date, black and the leftmost one was oily. I brought some new ones and upon firing the engine up, loads of black smoke which cleared very quickly. The car was absolutely fine for a week! It answered my questions about the juddering and felt more powerful and efficient than ever, the speedo ran totally as normal too. However yesterday when driving home the juddering returned. Some oil has leaked too around the first spark plug and must be misfiring again. It now normally starts after a few minutes of driving. I'm going to take it to work for a compression as soon as i can. Can anyone shed any light on the source of this leak? Piston rings? Rocker gasket? Valve washers? Its whats causing this leak i'm sure, changing the spark plugs just brought me some time! Thanks everyone, i appreciate it.

Hey guys I recently lowered my cars on TA Technix coilovers and after having them for two days they have already started chewing through tyres. I think it might be because of the profile on my tyres which are 65, but not sure is the strut was put on properly. So I may end up buying new wheels and lower profile tyres. Thanks Ben

Back in april 2011 my misses blow up her lupo 1.4 16v S At the time one of my mates was selling his Seat Ibiza Mk2 G40 which he recently bought off edition.. (blue/purple one) So she bought the G40 and got the engine taken out (Wouldnt let me touch it as she wanted to do everything to her car herself) Sounded like a awesome idea so took it to a garage down the road and got the engine modified to fit in. That bits sorted. Sits straight and looks like its ment to be in there. The issues were still having with it is the wiring is a mess. Shes had someone look at it recently but never seems to get anywhere. Its still in pieces and i think its passed its time and needs doing. (I haven't got a clue where to start with it) HELP!!!! Lol. Anyone know how to or know someone that can come and have a look over it and fix it? Will pay with British money and loads of tea or coffee! I'm in Clacton-On-Sea. Near Colchester. CO15 area.
