  1. Problem with the response of the fuel gauge when fuel is put in the tank. The fuel tank sender/pump unit has been replaced. The printed circuit board with the resistors on has been cleaned, checked and refitted. The replacement tank unit has been cleaned, checked and refitted. Both tank senders give exactly the same resistance change when the float is moved from bottom to top, that is empty to full tank. The VAG com reader shows correct movement of float arm from bottom to top, that is empty to full tank. When the car is rocked, the VAG com shows movement of fuel in tank. Fuel light goes on when tank is nearly empty, that's OK. Put £20 aprrox 17 Litres of fuel into tank. Start engine, fuel warning light still on. Two miles later full warning light goes out but gauge still on red line. 6.5 miles to home, needle still on red. Next day drive about ten miles with needle still in red. Another day later just driving along and needle rapidly rises to read almost 3/4 of a tank. Everything normal for three to four days, fuel just below half a tank. Needle slowly drifts to red line again. After about a week I decide to leave engine running while putting fuel in. Needle responds correctly and goes to 3/4 full. Needle operates fine for a week. Needle in red today so leave engine running while putting in fuel and needle sits at red for about 15 miles before moving to 3/4 full. Is there a register in the onboard computer that will alter the dampening rate of the sensor so that the needle will respond quicker. Is there a Master Reset to the onboard computer?
  2. Still having problems with my instrument binnacle. My fuel warning light stays on despite the fuel gauge working normally and tank fuel of petrol. This might be linked to the ongoing issue with the rev-counter which still isn't working - it stays stuck on zero and never moves. I have tried another instrument cluster to see if it is a problem with the unit but unfortunately (aggravatingly) no! fuel warning light still comes on while gauge reads max and rev-counter still sound asleep. Also checked fuses which are all 100%. Anyone have any ideas? ps I found a post on another forum which mentioned the same issue for a 96 Audi A4 and wondered if it was an alternator issue??? What???
