My Car Diary

Currently Driving

  1. Hello, i'm a new member hailing from the south west of england, i currently have a Black Lupo Gti, powder coated purple BBS RM's, with grill trim and carbon fibre wrapped badges to match, JOM Coilovers, JL Audio tweeters, front and rear speakers, BMC Induction Kit and personalised number plate. I have big plans for this car so watch this space. Pics below: :thumb up:
  2. Hi, i recently fitted a lupo sport inlet manifold and throttle body to my 1.4s but ive had problems with the car such as rough idling. The car sounds as if its cammed when at idle. On occasion the car will also cut revs and wont rev at all, i do have engine codes and i have checked them, it says P0106 - MAP/Barometric Pressure Circuit Range/Performance Problem It also says fuel bank trim 1, i have replaced the map sensor but did not fix the problem. The car is fitted with a gti throttle body which has extra vacuum pipes that don't connect up to my engine. I was wondering if it was just a case of there not being enough fuel and that it just needs mapping but am unsure if it is something else. Does anyone have any ideas to what it could be?
  3. Just bought myself a little 03 plate gti which I love! Having some intermittent problems with the lights. Somtimes when I turn the sidelights or headlights on, the passenger sidelights and rear lights do not come on. and sometimes i can switcht them off and on again, they come back on but then sometimes they dont!! have checked both fuses and they are fine. any common faults? I have also a problem with my indicators on the passenger side, where sometimes when the pull the indicator for the left hand turn signal, it will not work unless i pull it a little bit down (almost like the connection is not being made, but again like the other fault, it will sometimes work perfectly!!! Both faults could be linked?? Any info would be greatly appreciated! Rob
  4. I've got a GTI beam ready to be put on but I want to get new bearings but all I keep finding is the bearing + hub assembly I was going to go to simply bearing (or something of the kind) and find the equivalent but i was wondering if anyone on her could help me with source two bearings only. If not, anyone that has sized them up to get new ones Thanks Keelan
  5. There isn't much option to get my hands on a GTi 3rd brake light, other than the dealers, eh?
  6. Hi guys, I can't be the only one that thinks the current CL sticker is a bit boring and I'm not even sure if they are still being made? (mods correct me?) I've been running through a few ideas for a new one and this is what i've come up with so far although still a work in progress. Would anyone be interested in one or have any ideas for stickers? Not doing this to harm any stickers Nicki is still selling but I think there should be an option of something more interesting! Waiting on a friend to come back with the prices per unit/job lot and what colours are available but they can pretty much be made to any specification for a price. I'm not trying to tread on any toes here just offering my ideas up to the community. UPDATE: I now have a limited number of the above stickers. Price is £2.50 + 50p postage. You only pay postage per order not per sticker so 5 stickers would still only be 50p postage. Please PM to make orders will take paypal or bank transfer dispatched quickly.
  7. Last weekend I drove around the Nordschleife for the first time with my Lupo The car drove very well with just a H&R Coilies. What was a really big dissapointment/problem, the brakes. Well this didn't came to me as a surprise but I was little surprised how quickly the brakes were gone After 4 km nothing happened anymore. Well because the idea is to drive more often on the Nordschleife and also other track days, I have been looking for a possible brake upgrades for the Lupo. I know about the G60 upgrade but I'm not 100% sold for this solution. Then I stumbeled upon Porsche/S2 brakes. I know they have been used in mk4/5/6 Golf succesfully but has anyone fitted one to a Lupo? They would require a 305 disc but what I have understood Ibiza Cupra R discs would go. The calibers that would fit would be from the Boxster/986 rear axle. This would be a perfect solution regarding track days, because the available amount of different brake pads would be wast. The price is also not a problem. Other option would be to take S2 brakes. Would these fit directly? http://www.ebay.de/itm/Audi-S2-Bremssattel-Doppelkolben-Bremsanlage-G60-Girling-60-komplett-/171068509495?pt=DE_Autoteile&hash=item27d47a4d37 If anyone has some dimensions from the front brake caliber, those would be very usefull.
  8. Hi all I bought the car a month or so ago now for my 18th Birthday in December. Used to run around in my little black 1.0 and wanted something a bit faster so that landed me with Paula. Car was completely standard when i bought it, since then i've fitted cambridge rear lights, a 90mm rear badge off a Sharan and LED replacement bulbs for the sidelights. I've also managed to get hold of a 3L steering wheel but havent got round to fitting that yet. With any luck she should be going in the workshop next week to get the front bumper recess filled and respayed. Luckily for me this is what the postman brought yesterday! Hopefully these should be on in the next week or so Plans for the next month should be a set of new wheels and get the new plates on ready for ulitmate dubs in march!

    Wheels for GTI ?

Hi all, I am on the verge of buying myself a GTI and I am already thinking about changing the wheels. The car will probably be black and I was thinking that a set of black wheels with chrome/stainless rim would look good on it. I think I want to stick to 15" wheels so that the ride and handling is unaffected and close to stock. I would welcome any recommendations that people have tried and know they will fit the Lupo. In addition, any advice on offsets etc I should be looking at that would fit the Lupo and avoid arch rubbing etc
  10. So I have had my car for 2 months now and I think it's time she made some internet friends. I have a Y reg Lupo GTi in silver called Lilo. She had 24.5k miles on her when I bought her. She is pretty much standard but I have some plans for her over the next year or so. I'm thinking of starting with the smaller things first so pressed plate, chrome caps for the oil, water and windscreen wash and yes, as you might see in the pictures, I have bought a Stitch toy to sit in the back (Lilo and Stitch?) Minor works need to be done like the grab handles, I need a new key as I lost the main one and the transponder in the spare doesn't work so my alarm goes off quite a lot and I also need to replace the motors for the electric windows. I am going to delete the top rear brake light, debadge the back and remove the GTi badge from the front grill. I apologise for the poor picture quality. It started raining and I had only just washed her At the moment, she is sat on 17" Boss multifitment wheels (Don't judge me, that's how I bought the car!) which are scuffed beyond belief. I have bought some Audi Pepperpots that are currently in old english white. Looking to get them resprayed in either matt black or sparkly black with the logo, lip and the end of the centre cap in polished silver. I am thinking for the summer I want to get Drag DR 24s 15x8 4x100 but we shall see. Hoping to get them on by March, and I'm hoping I can put some coilovers on at the same time as at the moment, she is sitting too high for my liking. To be fair, the interior of the car is immaculate, but I'm looking to put Mk4 Golf GTi seats in with a custom retrim, so if you know anyone who is any good but doesn't rip people off let me know! Failing the Mk4's I might just get the GTi seats for the lupo, and not bother with a retrim. If I change the fabric of the seats, I will also change the door cards and the parcel shelf to tie in. The only other thing non standard about the car is the stereo and the sub. The previous owner of the car changed the head unit, but me, my brother, my dad and a friend all played a part in fitting the sub, and sinking the amp below the boot floor. Unfortunately, the original CD player now doesn't fit flush in the centre console but I am looking to change that anyway. Thinking of having a separate equalizer in there, but if you have any better ideas, fire them my way! The sub I have was built 15 years ago by my dad and is still going strong. I'm not entirely sure of the size but it is a Pioneer subwoofer sunk into a custom built box, which is sealed with silicone. It is amazing! Once everything is connected properly, and I have secured my amp (as it is being held in place by the Vans boxes), it has a separate blue light inside which tops it off for me. I have one killswitch at the moment which works, but is waiting to be placed in the boot floor, and I am looking at having a second one in the centre console in the front just because it would be easier to turn it on in the front of the car, than having to open the boot to turn it on when I want to use it. So that's my plan for the first half of 2014. Once all of that has been done, I am looking into uprating the speakers in the car, getting a cone induction kit, bespoke decat stainless steel exhaust (don't know whether to stick with the twin exit or just have one bigger exit) and then a remap. It might take me a little while to get there but I will make it happen... eventually. I hope you like my car as much as I do! Lisa <3
  11. Been posting here for a few weeks and finally picked myself up a Loop GTi. It was the second one I looked at and compared t the first one, was miles better. Not perfect but given the price, I am really happy with it. It is black and completely standard OEM plus optional air con and CD player. It has only had two previous owner, the first for approx the first 11 years of its life and the second for the last year. The second owner was upgrading to an Audi S3 but not before servicing it incl plugs and putting on new brake pads and discs all round In addition to all 3 keys (2 + plastic coding key) and a full set of manuals, it also has a gigantic pile of of paperwork with the original purchase invoice, every MOT and every invoice with servicing and all done at VW for the last 12 years As I mentioned, not perfect and needs a few bits to get it perfect: - A few minor paint marks commensurate with age - Front door cards and trim showing a bit of age - Some of the tyres need changing Other than sorting out the above, I have a few additional plans for it which I would be grateful for some feedback. I was thinking of adding the following - Smoked Side Indicators - Henka wind deflectors - Carbon Fibre effect VW badge on front and back - BBS wheels with black centre and polished rims - Coilovers, maybe AP What do people think of those changes ? Are the smoke indicators and black badges too much ? And not forgotten, a couple of photos of the new baby:
  12. Hi all, I am thinking of getting the gearbox oil on my new (to me) Lupo GTi. I don't expect it had been changed in its life and would prefer to make sure it has a refresh. What is the recommended (or better) gearbox oil for the 6 speed box ? Thx
  13. Is it possible to fit the 1.8T engine from the MK4 Golf GTI into a Volkswagen Fox? Do they share the same chassis? Has anyone done it? If I was to buy a MK4 Golf to use as a donor car would it be possible? I see a VR6 Fox on YouTube but that was a specially made Spanish rally car Help is much appreciated
  14. Hi, Just bought a Lupo GTi (2001) and trying to get it sorted. I had to get a new spoiler brake light and bought it direct from VW. It arrived and doesn't fit. I've heard somewhere about modifying to make it fit. Is this common?Do I modify the spoiler or the light?Does anyone have any pictures or tutorial? Thanks in advance Ben
  15. Can anybody help me im looking for a lupo gti grille but i cant seem to find one anywhere ! anybody got one for sale or know of where i could acquire one ?
  16. In looking through the classifieds, I have noticed that there are a fair few cars advertised with a replacement or refurb gearbox. Most of the cars seem to be on around 100k miles and spread across both 5 speed and 6 speed boxes. I would have thought that a VW gearbox would last more than 100k miles. Is this a common issue and one I should budget for if the car is still on its original gearbox ?
  17. Hi all, I was wondering if you could help. I am trying to source (or even uncover the part numbers) for the following GTi parts: - GTi Gearstick Knob - Red Upper Door Cards for the front doors Thanks
  18. I have seen some GTi versions on here with a red surround to the grille. How is this done ? Is it painted on or is it a styling accessory ?
  19. Hi all, Which set of brake pads and discs would you recommend for the rear of the GTI ? I have seen a few cheap sets on eBay such as Mintex etc as well as the Euro Car Parts stuff such as Pagid and Eicher but not sure which are best
  20. Just a quick question, my friend has a Polo GTI air intake that he doesn't need any more and has offered it to put on my 1.4 16v Lupo, will it actually fit or will it fail horribly?
  21. Hi all, I recently had the clutch replaced in my Lupo GTi and since then the gear shifter doesnt feel quite as positive going into first, third, fifth or reverse. second, fourth and six are perfect, the shifter engages with a satisfying click but 1,3,5 doesn't feel like the gear stick is properly engaging (although it does select fine and doesnt pop out of gear or anything). I have attempted to reset the linkage by locking the gear stick with a 5mm drill bit, and then removing the slack out of the linkage at the gearbox, but I can't seem to improve it... its as if I've taken all the slack out of the cable and it still needs to be tighter. Am I doing something wrong, or could the cable have stretched while the clutch was being replaced? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated
  22. After reading through pages and pages of how to and build threads im still at a loose end as to what to do. Basically the scenario is this.... I currently have a 1.0 Lupo, Poverty spec, no leccy windows, now power steering, no abs (I dont think) I also have an opportunity to buy a mk4 polo 1.6gl with power steering etc A polo gti convertion has come into my sights with the following parts: Engine Gearbox Driveshafts Subframe Power steering rack 95% of power steering pipe work, ARB Bottom Arms Hubs Brakes with abs sensors abs pump/unit rad and water pipes full engine bay loom Full interior loom Full abs loom clocks Steering column with ignition barrel, pedal box doorlocks rear disc setup including abs sensors Fuse Box Relays Things that I havent got are fuel pump and fuel lines, power steering resevoir and the pipe from that to pump and a Key, but I have a chassis number if that helps. My question is this. What further parts do I require to convert to either vehicle. In peoples opinion, which is the easiest?
  23. Here I have for sale my Black Lupo Gti 2001 1.6 16v, this is the rare and more reliable 5-speed model. These cars have a huge following and are becoming increasingly rare! The milage currently sits at 105,000 which is low for a car of this age, it has been my pride and joy for the time I have owned it and I will be sad to see it go. This is no ordinary lupo and all modifications and upgrades have been made using the highest quality parts. It has been very well looked after and lots of money has been spent. Inside: Electric windows Air conditioning Twin cup holders Original GTI mats Red GTI seatbelts Sony Xplod Head unit Uprated door speakers All of the above work as they should and the interior is very tidy. Outside: OZ racing super tourismo wheels (some kerb marks and one of the centre caps is missing) The paintwork is very clean and shiny and looks great in the sun, paint code - L041 The VW and GTI badges have been finished in purple (looks great) The windows are tinted (front and back) Full HID headlamps and side lights On the whole the body work is very tidy, there are a couple of imperfections including a few stone chips on the bonnet and a small scuff on the passenger side rear quarter but this is to be expected on a car of this age. Performance mods: BMC CDA Air filter Long life stainless steel cat back exhaust (sounds amazing) Lowered on high quality coil overs Golf Gr60 brakes This is a brilliant example of the lupo GTI and it is very mechanically sound, starts first time every time and drives like a dream with no unusual knocks or bangs. It is also very quick and lots of fun to drive. 6 months tax 12 months MOT Full service history Since I have owned this car the following work has been carried out; New check straps on both doors New coil pack, plugs and leads Full service - July 2013 New gear box and clutch fitted See classified section for pics, £2900 Ono Sold as seen Any questions text me - 07590635644 Thanks for looking Ash

    TT Aero wipers

Been thinking about getting aero wipers but i just cannot justify the ludicrous price for GTI arms. In my searches i've found that a lot of people are putting GTI wipers on their Corrado's.. They are also putting TT arms on their Corrado's. If GTI arms fit Corrado's.. and TT arms fit Corrado's.. then surely TT arms will fit Lupo's no? Or am i missing something?
  25. Hey guys, I'm new to this so apologies if I've posted in the wrong place.. I have a standard 1.4 Lupo (as far as I'm aware...) but it has a spoiler with a brake light in, like that of a GTI. It was owned by some elderly lady before me so I very much doubt she had this added on. Does anyone know why my car has this, or is it just one of those things? Not complaining but my boyfriend has an identical Lupo, just without the spoiler, and is becoming increasingly jealous... Any ideas? Cheers x
