  1. Lupo GTI Engine and Gearbox Description: For sale is the engine from my Lupo GTI, it's currently on 100,000 miles (may be slightly higher, can't remember). Will include coil pack, plugs, leads, inlet and exhaust manifold. Can include ECU + immobiliser box + immobiliser chip (x2) for an extra £50. Regularly serviced and maintained, folder full of history for the girl! I have a video of it running and a video showing a compression test across all cylinders. I'm 90% sure the gearbox has been rebuilt within its life but will have to confirm, all the signs of it being rebuilt are there. Location: Ringmer - Near Brighton in the South East. Postage: Collection is preferred. I will not ship. I can deliver if pre-arranged (within reason). Price: £500 for the two £300 each if separate. Thanks for looking!
  2. Need help changed engine now engine light on, fuse 23 was blow engine management light on, scanner says p403 and 408 and 36 Egr malfuntion think its wiring but engine run perfect before hand
  3. Hello! Just after some ideas on sorting out my Lupo! I've just got a 1.4 75bhp 16 valve 2001 reg with 103,000 on the clock and I've been wanting to rebuild the engine. I've been looking at changing the engine for something a little quicker but I've been wondering about just rebuilding this one with some performance pistons and some fast road cams etc etc. does anyone have any suggestions aside from this? Obviously I would be adding a performance 4 branch manifold and a full stainless system with a sports cat etc, but any ideas would be much appreciated! Also, what kind of power output could I expect from the 1.4 16 valve engine? Thanks, Amelia
  4. Hi guys my check engine light came on and I plugged my code reader in and it said: Throttle actuator Control range/ Performance bank 1 DTC definitions not found! Refer to vehicle service manual. Does any one know what this means?
  5. After recently K.O'ing my battery my EPC and check engine light have been on, i also have the issue that my ecu port does not seem to work so I can't plug it in and find out whats up! can anyone help? I don't know where to begin looking, as the EPC light isnt on constantly where as the check engine light seems to be majority of the time. The car will start occassionally with neither on but after a couple of minutes they come back on Please help!
  6. Hi, everybody! I'm quite the new beginner when it comes to what's going on under the hood of a car, so it's been quite hard finding topics referring to my problem, since I don't know what the parts do or are called. Although, worth mentioning is that I don't mind getting my hands dirty and I prefer hands on learning. So here's my story: I've owned my Lupo for almost two years now and I've had a few problems during this time. Nothing big though and it's always run smoothly. The car has gone 210 000 km, which is about 130 000 miles, so it's probably on the bad side of the human 50's, I guess, considering physical condition, of course. About two months ago I lost my acceleration, basically. At first I thought that the car was a bit slow but then I reached "Åby-backen", which is a steep slope on the freeway, outside my hometown "Norrköping" and found that going uphill I could reach a top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph). I got passed by lorries and in order not to piss people off I had to stay at that speed for the rest of the ride. So, this is the state that my Lupo is in atm. I cracked up the hood and found some leads as to what was causing the turbo, I suppose, not to work. I'll show you what I'm talking about in some pictures but here's also a short text description. A major oil spillage revealed that a quite thick pipe had sprung loose. So I cleaned the engine quickly, jammed the pipe back in jumped in the car and drove off. Now everything was smooth sailing once again. But I was quite suspicious and rightfully so. I thought to myself that it shouldn't be that easy. Of course I wanted to try the acceleration off for real and here's where it happened. The pipe sprung loose once again and I could hear how the engine started to, I dunno how to put it but, roar in an unsatisfying way and I lost my acceleration once again. Now I thought that the problem was that the pipe was old and worn out so I made a Donald Duck kind of repair and used a pair of straps to fasten the pipe again. This worked for a few days but somehow it doesn't any longer. It's quite tight but still the pipe is pushed out. I'm thinking that it might have something to do with pressure rather than a screwed up pipe. Sorry for the long post. I hope you can look past that and help me in finding a solution to my problem. Thank you! Pictures> If you need to see more pictures just say and I'll post what you need.
  7. Hi guys, i am picking up a new engine and gearbox lump for my lupo, im changing from the 75hp 1.4 to a 100horsepower version. i have got engine gearbox and ecu from him, however he scrapped the car with the wiring loom still inside! here is my question, is it the same wiring loom between the two models? a completely different one, or is it possible to splice the new ecu into my existing loom i understand i will have to flash the ecu to remove the immobiliser system that is normally coded to the key and i am able to do that with the help of my local garage i believe. any advice? anyone who has done this and has any tips would be grateful
  8. Hi guys, Does anyone know if anyone's done anything other than 1.8t swaps and the usual old stuff? I was wondering how hard it would be to fit the new polo gti engine (1.4tfsi running 180ps) and it's gearbox? That would be pretty cool IMO! What do u guys think? Other than it being a hugely costly project considering its a brand new engine bla bla bla.
  9. My EML came on today and didn't go off. It was quite difficult to set off and it was 'stuttering' in every gear. It's came on before but went straight off. I have no idea what it could be and if anyone would be able to give us an idea that'd be great. I know this is could be a range of things but I can't really narrow it down anymore as I daren't start it. Thanks Chris.
  10. Hello people, I have just bagged myself a bargain (mk2 golf gti 8v 1986) and my lupo gearbox has just blow its self to pieces I am thinking of getting a 1.8 20vt for the golf and taking the 1.8 gti engine out of the golf and into the lupo, was just wondering if any has ever done this? and if so how long was the process of doing it? i need the lupo back on road asap if not it will be a case of finding someone with a replacement gearbox
  11. My TDi is making a vibration noise that can be felt at idle and is even more noticeable when pulling away. At first I thought it was an engine mount but it seems to be more of a running problem. I think it may be an injection problem, maybe gunked up if not a balancing issue. I have a new gear, chain and tensioner kit for the balance shaft to go on
  12. I had it fixed, was simply a case of a faulty ECU.
  13. After My last post I noticed when I took the air box cover off it was full of gunk and mayo looking stuff, Then I found the breather Pipe, There was to my surprise more of this my Question to you Is best ways to clean it and sort this out as I wanna have this car for at-least a year (for no claims and that) also I have a blowing exhaust but When I go into a higher gear i get a loud vibration from my engine I put oil in and boom its not as loud so Im worried it might be something expensive due to that breather pipe etc
  14. Right, i've just bought an Arosa sport Mk2 (arosabinns ex-car) and im having some problems with the throttle, it does NOT rev at all. Put the foot down and all it does is squirt a bit of fuel and fluctuate. The butterfly valve in the throttle body does NOT move at all. I have removed the body and plugged it into my Mk1 to test it and the valve SEEMS to operate perfectly on the other car. I have tested the wiring according to the manual and all seems ok: 3.3.2 Test processDetach the 6-contacts connector from the throttle valve control unit -arrow- .Measure the resistance of the throttle valve activator between contacts 3+5. I can NOT perform a throttle body alignment because it says 'ERROR' when i try.The engine on this car has been replaced approximately 10K ago with an ANW/AXP engine, The ECU is the standard one i believe.I took the car to the garage to try and get it sorted but the owner seems to think there is no possible way to get the car running with that engine/ECU. I was told to scrap it for £150 and that i could get an identical working model for £600.WHAT A LOAD OF HORSE SH*T! All of this leads me to think that this is an ECU problem?Does anybody have any suggestions what i can try to resolve this?If it is the ECU (knowing my luck it will be) how would i go abouts switching/replacing/repairing it? Do i need a virgin unit or can i get a second hander?Should the new ECU be for the original (AUB) engine or the new (AHW/AXP) engine?Would i be able to get an aftermarket ECU to get the car to work and would this be a better option? I apologise if this has been a MAHOOSIVE post and nobody understands any of it, i dont think i do myself I'm based about 15 miles north of newcastle if anyone can recommend any garages that would take it on? Any more information just ask and ill do my best to retrieve it Dan
  15. hi there, well my epc light came on about a week ago and i didnt no what it was before but now the check engine light as come on aswell, just wanting to know any suggestions on what these fault codes could be for, any help would be great, lupo 1.4s 2002 thanks
  16. Right, basically I like the body shape of the GTI, but I'm 17 and, for obvious reasons, would not be able to afford GTI insurance. A weird idea I had (which would probably end up worse off... who knows lol) was if I picked up a Gti with a knackered engine, and a 1.0 with a knackered body and dumped the 1.0 engine in the Gti Body what would the insurance think? (Or I could even just get a Gti, purchase a 1.0 engine&box for a few hundred squid to drop in and over time do bits of work on the 1.6 for when I'm older, have some ncb and can insure it lol.) Would I get away with a price that's maybe a bit more than a 1.0 or one that's more than a Gti! Sounds silly I know but it'd be a decent little project I guess please don't hate<3
  17. Hey I have a 1.0 lupo W reg my engine is coded AER, I want to convert it to a 1.4 engine, can anyone give me a rough idea what parts I need to change to complete this convention, like wiring changes, loom, Ecu, breaks ect. Please please help! And no I don't wana sell up and buy a 1.4 I love my green pea to much !
  18. Hi guys, I've many problems with my arosa with 1.4 16v 101cv code engine AUB because it's drunks too much oil. I decided to swap this engine with the Lupo GTi 1.6 125cv 5 gearbox. The problem is that in Italy nobody have done that. It's possible? I've notice that probably the support are the same... Is plug'n'play? How can I do? Thank you guys!!
  19. I've long loved my lupo. A couple of weeks back i was thinking about how its never had any problems, i've only ever repaired a handful of stupid little problems! Its done just over 100,000 miles, its a 1.4 Lupo E. Suddenly bam! Upon driving to work the car started juddering madly, i immediately started to blame the clutch but then i noticed the speedo was fluctuating all over the place, randomly alongside the juddering. The revs stayed steady, which seemed very strange. Taking the car out of gear i rolled to a stop, it started to judder again as i pulled away, and does now, more noticeably with lower revs. The clutch is fairly new, we tested it and it stalled the engine with the handbrake test really effectively. The bite point is normal too. My car has always had a little oil around the leftmost spark plug. I always thought this was from where i spilt a little oil around when topping up. A week ago i changed the oil and filter and cleaned it up. When the car starting this juddering i had a look under the bonnet and found this was actually a leak. I thought this could explain the juddering, the engine cylinder misfiring. I changed the spark plugs over, they were well past their sell by date, black and the leftmost one was oily. I brought some new ones and upon firing the engine up, loads of black smoke which cleared very quickly. The car was absolutely fine for a week! It answered my questions about the juddering and felt more powerful and efficient than ever, the speedo ran totally as normal too. However yesterday when driving home the juddering returned. Some oil has leaked too around the first spark plug and must be misfiring again. It now normally starts after a few minutes of driving. I'm going to take it to work for a compression as soon as i can. Can anyone shed any light on the source of this leak? Piston rings? Rocker gasket? Valve washers? Its whats causing this leak i'm sure, changing the spark plugs just brought me some time! Thanks everyone, i appreciate it.
  20. I have a wonderful green lupo, and now i want to make the engine look pretty and spice things up abit under the hood, i would like some white coolant hoses to make it look smarter under the hood, i cant seem to find any, anywhere are the 6n2 engines the same,
  21. My new engine is finally being fitted in a rush as i need the car for bugjam to get in with my VW weekend ticket! There isnt enough time to make the car something amazing for Bugjam, so i think im literally just going to have my coilovers fitted! It doesnt matter though as im not going to be showing it anyway Not enough time to fit my wheels as with my custom adaptors my arches are going to have to be pulled like crazy! Plus im still sanding down the dishes so they can be polished AND i still havnt decided on a colour for the centres.. although think i might go for grey. I have custom panels (bootlid and doors) waiting to be put on but they still need painting, boo! No point in rushing when i can take my time and have it ready for Edition38 in september!
  22. Is it possible to get an undertray for a mk1 arosa? My engine bay is just getting filthy, covered in tar spots.
  23. Problem= engine is quite tappaty and is burning a resonable amount of oil only recently started tapping. actions carried out= changed oil for 5w30 magnatex oil and new filter service was only 2000 miles ago and also added some wynns hydraulic valve lifter cleaner to my oil, the volume of the tapping hasnt change at all. i have noticed with the oil cap off you can see oil being sent to the head so it isnt running dry. what have people experienced or does anyone know how to stop the burning oil and tapping noise thankyou any help would be much appreciated do apologise if this is a duplicate thread extremly busy with work to haul through threads to find many different answers
  24. I recently brought a lupo 1.4 03 and there's a strange tapping noise coming from the top end? The noise seems to disappear after 2000 rpm, I done a oil change and filter and it sounded slightly better its not a very high mileage either 72000. The noise is really starting to irritate me any suggestions? Cheers
  25. 1.0L lupo to do a engine conversion with, but it being my second year of driving and being my first engine conversion I'm only thinking of dropping a 1.4 or 1.6 engine in it. So i'm wondering whats going to be the easiest engine to fit and the best to tune up? So if u can help guide me, it would help a lot Cheers Luke
