My Car Diary

Currently Driving

  1. This morning I bought a blue 1.4e Lupo. I knew the 16v would be a bit lively, however I have driven an Ibiza sport with the same engine and it seems so flat in comparison to this, definitely not standard (apart from the induction kit). So, I'd like to know if anyone knows who this car belonged to, what they did to it and possibly why they sold it. It was bought in Nottingham, and has been in this general area from new I assume: First 3 letters of the Reg are T68, it has a brand new throttle body and a BMC CDA induction kit and I think FK's all round (probably wrong) Anyway, Im in love with it and havent even picked it up yet. Liam
  2. Ok, so I brought some brake discs for my 1.4 16v thinking they were 240mm, however they turned out to be 256mm! I filtered the parts for my REG and it said that they would fit, and from a very quick read online apparently I will be able to fit the 256's. Can anyone confirm this so I don't have to go and buy some 240's now? Thanks from Lewis
  3. Hi guys im beginning to hate my lupo sport i have one of the dreaded ETB gearboxes. the car is popping out of reverse gear all other gears are working fine. is this an easy fix? are their any alternative gearboxes that will fit? the car? Thanks Erol
  4. So, we at Dirty Stancing and Garage Midnight acquired a block, in quite a sorry state, and I have taken it upon myself to make it not a sorry state. This little block has quite the lovely story behind it. Starting life in a very good friend of ours' Lupo, a Mr Robin Marriott. After serving its time in his little show stunner it had taken to having a bit of a smoke, so he stripped it out and was planning on re building it. In the mean time fitting a new, non smoky engine to his Lupo. This meant that this poor block sat on an engine stand never to be touched again... until Levi bought it, and put it in his garage... where it also didn't get much attention... and then we got our FILTHY hands on it. it a bit of a state I must admit... once we had had a good long think about what to do with it, still undecided, we stuffed it on the engine stand and started to deconstruct. things dont happen all that fast here... easily distracted, and like i said, we weren't sure where we were going with this so it was really for me to learn what can be done. Having never worked on an engine before, its all new to me, so its a learning curve. Got most of the front end off and started to clean this DUTeeeyyyy thing up. and the sump off and demucked! couple of bits bought whilst i had the cash moneys sitting there so its pretty much ready for the next few bits. Next on the agenda is get these valves out and have a go at porting and polishing this head. got loads of room to play with with these new gaskets and then we are going to fab a manifold to fit that so we can go wild! Then all there is to think about is cams, lightened flywheel and carbs, which is the decision we have come to for this build. The point/plan of this build is for me to learn, so there will be no sending it off for others to do. EVERYthing is going to (hopefully) be done inside the confines of Culo Diablo/Dirty Stancing/Garage Midnight. (which you can follow as individual hashtags on instagram) hoping to get around 160bhp from it, but to be honest like ive said, its just to have a go really. i'll update when anything new happens Safe x
  5. Anyone selling Lupo GTI: -SideSkirts -Front& Rear bumpers -Spoiler please message me if you are or you know where i can get these !! Thankyou.
  6. So I own a 1.4 16v lupo on a 1999, (has only covered around 58,500 miles) Coming home last night, the dreaded whyning began, however it didn't seem to get louder as you went faster. it sounded louder as you took your foot off the accelerator to come down the revs, anyway that aside. Seems to me like I need a new gear box. So the question is, dose anyone know if this model has rod-type gear linkage or is it cable gear linkage? Thanks.
  7. After a 121mile each way I finally picked up a Sport as I've been after one for a couple weeks. It's not exactly in the best condition body-wise as the previous owner's ex girlfriend kicked in both rear 1/4s, boot, bonnet and a wing. But I got it quite cheap My mate had hardly used pads and discs off his polo gti so I decided to fit them but the discs were too thick!! Bought some standard discs in the end but still used the green stuff Mods: - Coilovers (not sure what they are but theyre comfy) - K&N Air filter - Catback system Plans: - Replace engine - Make the car mechanically sound - Sort out bodywork - 15" Ronal Turbo's

  9. Selling my genuine Pipercross Viper carbon fibre cold air feed and induction kit. I am only selling due to returning car to standard specification. This cost £250 new, and is similar to the BMC CDA intakes but higher quality, and real carbon fibre. It was fitted to a 1.4 sport, and sounded lovely! Here is a link to the site: http://www.lkperformance.co.uk/induction-kits/pipercross/pipercross-viper-induction-kit/368415?carId=176840 And description: "Viper air intake unit The technology used in the Pipercross Viper was first seen on the famous Lotus 340R, but soon became available for an ever increasing range of popular road cars. Using 'velocity air force', each Viper air intake directs cold air directly into the engine. The cold air feed takes air from an area of cold, dense air straight into the Viper's inlet, swirling it through a unique Pipercross reverse-flow air filter contained within a carbon fibre heat shield, then into a ram pipe to increase the air pressure before feeding it into the induction system. The carbon fibre heat shield protects the air charge from under bonnet heat keeping it cool -and therefore more dense -thus introducing more oxygen into the combustion mixture, giving increased power. The reverse flow technology filter and 150mm ram pipe make use of the physical phenomenon of air tending to move towards surface area's, creating more air flow on the edge rather than in the centre of the inlet. The unique design of the filter cone and the inlet 'tune' the moving air flow to increase its speed and therefore its pressure maximising the laminar air flow into the engine, again resulting in increased power. Sealed unit cold air intake Genuine carbon fibre heatshield Reverse flow foam filter element Noticeable improvement in mid range performance Highly polished alloy components combined with deep weave carbon fibre for great under bonnet looks" I am asking £120 Location: Corsham, near Bath Contact: Please feel free to PM or call/text 07837 892836
  10. Right, so I bought this car with a blown engine in 2009 as a project. Car was on approx 100k miles when I bought it, service history up to 92484 miles, 04/2009 I had the engine replaced with a used one doing 75k miles (receipt available), along with £1500 worth of other work to get the car MOT'd (receipts available). Enjoyed the car for all of 3 months, before cambelt snapped (probably the only thing I didnt replace...I know, in hindsight the most important thing). So I replaced the cambelt (£400ish), car back on road...briefly till it began to smoke. I suspect oil rings. In my haste to get the car back on road I didn't get them changed. Car has been parked on drive for bout 9 months declared SORN, I was hoping to get it on the road again. It starts and runs, but due to change in circumstances I have to sell. It did not pass last MOT. It failed on emissions (...also temporary petrol cap). So selling for SPARES OR REPAIRS. It will be a good project for someone who has time and a bit of cash to spend. Car is lowered by 40mm all round, and has black headlamps. Great fun to drive. Gutted to have to sell it. Also I have these extras which I was hoping to install on the car. 2 x Tornado 6.5" 200W 2 way speakers (I-AG7070) BMC CDA Induction Kit-brand new (ACCDA70-130) Kenwood CD Receiver - (KDC-PSW9521) 2 x JBL P42, 4" 2 way speakers 2 headlamps 3 x 15" GTi Bathurst Rims and tyres, plenty of tread on all Im looking for £1500 or nearest offer for everything, car is located in Bedford. Call me on 07952587998 for queries or viewing. Memphis
  11. Hi, new to the site and new to the Volkswagen and Lupo scene! I brought my lupo for a bargain price of £850! Althought she's got a bit of discolouration and a few knocks (and after having an entire new exhaust and brake system fitted) but she's a beaut and runs lovely. I was wondering if anyone could advise me on some mods? I have a few ideas myself: white roof, white wheels (cav slabs, yellow bbs, polo bbs split, vintage star mag or RONAL TEDDYS!), smoothed boot, coilovers and I've already got colour coded bumpers thankfully. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated and I could also do with a point in the right direction with the coilovers on top and reliable makes etc.
