  1. UPDATE: VW think that the problem seems to be the wiper linkage - getting that replaced and the blade angle adjusted for about £90. Will let you know what transpires, should fix the judder and flap.
  2. It looks like there are a few things amiss with mine - -the wiper arm angle is incorrect- it pushes the blade up the screen until the pressure slackens off, then the wiper blade itself flops over. -there seems to be some play in the linkage, so a trip to the dealers for this to be remedied. -arm tension may be changed, just have to get the arms replaced I have the OEM VW aero blades, only 3 weeks old. The wipers were near silent until I changed the blades over, so maybe something has worn or is simply out of kilter.
  3. My new aero wipers are juddering and flapping all over the place. They used to be nice and quiet, but now they make a heck of a lot of noise. I know there are threads that suggested a fix, one of which was flexing the arms to reduce the pressure of the blade on the windscreen: http://forums.clublupo.co.uk/index.php?sho...ipers&st=20 However, I'm not entirely sure how to flex the arms to help cure this judder. I have tried cleaning the windscreen and all the other non-bending solutions - just wanted to get some input. Any advice?
  4. Very nice. I like the fact that there are not many white ones around at the moment - but looks like they are getting more popular. Were those pictures taken at the side of Aberdeen harbor, or is that Stonehaven?
  5. Probably the 17's. The 18's by BBS are diamond cut and very hard to refurb. The 17's give a slightly more compliant ride and don't jiggle quite so much on the motorway. Also, for a white car, the regular Monzas look great. The MKVI is out in a year or so, with the GTi to come at an (unspecified) later date. Reason being is that the MKV is quite a costly car to build with a great rear suspension set, so to accelerate the build time and cut costs, VW may be introducing some design changes. I am getting a 2008 Model year car, which is great. Just 11 weeks or so to wait now. Hope that VW don't mess up the order and it arrives exactly as specified.
  6. Good point - they always seem to be driven in a relaxed manner. I'll keep my eyes open for lazy GTi's
  7. Colour - Candy White with VW window tints from the b-pillar back. Xenons and a whole heap of extras. Road tax for the GTi is only £205, which is much more reasonable...
  8. I have taken the plunge and ordered a new Golf GTi. Could not bear to part with the Lupo, so am keeping that as well and giving it to my other half. Unless someone really, really wants a mint 2002 reflex silver with a/c and sunroof, cd, tape, grey interior, always VW serviced (cam belt and all the trimmings at 40K)..... After looking for ages at the options, driving most of them and discarding them just as fast, the Golf just seemed the best out of the bunch, although the R32 was tempting, £400 per year on road tax would be a little painful (as would 25 mpg I am sure). The Golf GTi drives brilliantly, like a grown up Lupo, but much quicker and more relaxed on the motorway, and has the same level of interior quality and fixtures that I have got used to in the 2+ years I have had my small silver one. So, soon (well once delivery is sorted out) to be a 2xGTi household. Then once the R36 Passat estate arrives, maybe one of them...well, a bit more space could always be handy....
  9. I purchased the Bosch 928 wiper pack from Halfords and made sure that I fitted the slightly longer blade to the drivers side, but, like my old blades, they flap when wiping the screen. Tried another set of new ones, but same problem, which made me think about the tension on the arms, and that it could be a little out of adjustment. Is there a way to adjust the tension on the blade arms to lift them slightly from the windscreen and stop the noise?
  10. I had this issue a while ago - very bad smell when the a/c was turned on, that would fade away as it was used. Eventually tracked down to some nasty non-VW screenwash that denatured and gave rise to an awful stink. Flushing the windscreen washer system with plenty of clean water (hose in the tank whilst washing lights and windscreen front and rear) got rid of the problem. The cabin air intake is at the lower left side of the windscreen, just where the screenwash runoff can stay pooled and this might be part of the problem. VW screenwash is pretty decent and does not break down into some of the more choice odours as cheaper mixes are prone to do. One other tip is to run the a/c all the time and check that it is correctly draining out of the car - easy to see on a humid day as the water drips from the right hand side of the firewall onto the ground as the air is dehumidified. The single best thing that you can do to keep the a/c system in top shape is to use it. Good luck getting rid of the odour.
  11. Been using BF Goodrich Profiler 2 tyres since July last year and have done around 30K miles on them, with a changeover front to rear. Impressed with their driving capabilities, sharp turn in and even wear across their surface. They shed standing water very well even with the tread near the legal limit, and they are very grippy in the dry - not too much squeaking and protesting. Downsizing from the OEM 205x45x15 Dunlops to 195x50x15 has not produced any noticable performance decrease - quite the reverse. Speedometer is slightly out, with a 40mph indicated actually being a GPS verified 37.5. As BF Goodrich are owned by Michelin it seems that their massive r&d efforts have produced a really decent tyre, that seems at home in the dry as well as the wet. I was very happy with these tyres - just ordered 4 more, for £40 per tyre (fitted). 12. Just get a horn kit from here: http://www.hornblasters.com Check out their videos and you get some idea of the volume.... Or go to youtube.com: http://youtube.com/results?search=hornblas...s&search=Search

    2 x Gti's

Did you make a good offer for the car then?
  14. I had this problem with my Lupo GTi, it was producing a sharp smell, slightly sulphur / or hydrogen sulphide (bad egg smell) like. After servicing the a/c and having it regassed, I traced the problem to some substandard windscreen washer fluid that I'd been using. I rinsed out the washer fluid container a good few times (put the hose in and use the washers for a while), and hey presto, no more smells. You might also want to change your pollen filter - that could be carrying an odd smell also. Now I use the VW washer fluid for fanjets and have not had the problem re-occur.
