  1. Just use an Allen key and take the bars off the stem, as it makes much more room and doesn't take much effort.
  2. Don't worry, it's a shifter issue, not an internal gearbox issue. I spent £1400 on a rebuild a couple of years ago. It will select 5th, just not with the stick at the moment.
  3. Easy, if you take the wheels off. I took a DH rig, a hardtail, spares, tools, roof bars, 2 cycle racks, luggage, to Austria inside the Lupo.
  4. Fifth gear is nice if you can get it. ?
  5. I used a Whiteline anti roll bar for a while and it rusted really quickly, so I would recommend giving it a good coat of paint before fitting. Although this was over 10 years ago, but it was a bit annoying.
  6. 156.6 miles on £10 @119.9p/L, just local running around, but I don't have a working 5th gear at the moment.
  7. Rich is right, the sill is part of the whole bodyside. So even if you bought a new one, you would still need to get the angle grinder out.
  8. Much appreciated. Hopefully we can cobble something together between us. I'm staying clear of eBay after getting burned there, where "good working order" translates to "more f#€ked than you ever thought possible".
  9. Here's a picture of my shaft. I may need to see photos looking inside your box before exchanging money. I need to know it's good and clean inside.
  10. I've ended up with 2 gearboxes, but also 2 knackered output shafts. I wonder if anyone has any old gearbox parts hanging around, which may include a good output shaft. Thanks.
  11. I should think this would work. The exhaust on the 3L runs down the back of the block and over the subframe, as there is no gear linkage in the way. The bottom of the subframe is flat, so you may have to get creative with the exhaust. 3Ls don't have hydraulic PAS, so it would worth check for steering rack compatability. I think the rear beam is basically the same, so I can't see any issues there.
  12. Recieved with many thanks. Perfect.
  13. I'm used to the old style VDO gauges from the Audis. I even 'had' to get a custom made white faced boost gauge for one of them. Sad but true. At least we can agree on using Bar. PSI is more for those running low boost.
  14. I've got one of these which is good for the TDI, as it doesn't have a vacuum scale.
  15. My wiper mechanism was in bad shape, with lots of play in various places. Today the snow finished it off, so I now have mono-wipe. If anyone has a spare complete unit, I would be grateful for one. Thanks.
  16. Yes. The centre hole does look a bit small in the photo. What a pain.
  17. Are these still available?
  18. That was worth doing. It looks fairly obvious why it was slipping. That's a great check list from Sausage. For others I would just add to look for oil contamination, from a leak from the gearbox input shaft seal, or even the rear crank seal.
  19. Ah-ha, I see. I know the Girling G60s fitted to the Audi S2 are a popular upgrade for Golfs, despite being hopelessly inadequate for the S2, but they may be overkill on a Lupo, and they are pretty hefty.
  20. I think it's probably down to weight saving, when you think of the trouble VW went to on other components to save a few grams.
  21. Okay, I will bare that in mind. I may go for something lighter, but I will have to find some wheel bearing housings first.
