That's an abomination. A proper air box and paper filter will do your poor engine a world of good.

Can you take a photo? Sounds bizarre

GTI ball joints have longer arms IIRC, only get them from VW as anywhere else will give you the wrong items. Been there done that -
Got any more pics of the car as a whole? Looks good

Dblock, your commitment and enthusiasm for a small diesel city car is commendable

You will have to replace the tape all the time, if it doesn't peel off it will fade

Agree with the exhaust comment above, outrageous price from main dealers

Wonder what the 0-60 of a 1.0 mk4 Golf would be. How did your first Arosa end up being burned out?

Good call by jon273 then! -
Mattz, 'kangarooing' was a common GTI trait where it would jerk when the engine was cold, don't seem to get so many posts about it nowadays. It was mapping related. I believe there was an ECU update somewhere along the GTI life cycle that attempted to solve it. With over stiff suspension the rearward weight transfer under acceleration would be less than standard so the driver perception of the car 'squatting' would be reduced not increased

Remember you need to keep a main beam as well as dipped. You would be best of asking an MOT place as to the legality
-
I ran my GTI on Vpower from day one. I never had any of the kangarooing that some people get either.

ALL HAIL LUPOBOZ, KING OF THE TRADERS Welcome back Dale, you have been missed. I hope you have been touring the country giving guidance on how to give superb customer service

Yeah it's been going downhill the last few occasions. They need to start charging to keep the dross out
-
It's the clutch, and every time you press it it's damaging your pedal box a tiny bit more. Speaking from experience here

Sorry, yes that is me, I ended up getting called in to work in the middle of the night and didn't end up going in the end! Was it good?

Does not changing tyres make you drive round a built up area at nearly 100mph? I would imagine that crash was caused by 'watch this' rather than old tyres.

Unless it's raced or rallied, totally pointless
