  1. Bloody hell. Yes! I can see the remains of a nasty blue carrier bag down there. Thanks : )
  2. Hi Rich, Yeah, melting plastic. It's coming from the front of the car. The smell appears strongest around the wheel arches as opposed to the engine bay itself. It's strongest externally, but it comes through the vent into the car at times. Thank you!
  3. My Lupo GTI has just started making what I can only describe as a hot plastic smell once the engine gets hot. Does anyone have any ideas what this could potentially be? Thanks!
  4. I'm looking to see if anyone knows how to successfully remove a drinks holder (or coin tray) from an under mount. I've unscrewed the 2x T20 screws and removed the unit. I'm looking to now remove the actual tray mechanism, like these: I see the two clips on the top-left and right of the bracket holding them in place but wondering if there are any hidden ones below? Anyone able to shed any light for me? Thanks
  5. I ended up being recommend Merton Crash Repairs in South Wimbledon and went for it. Fantastic job and top guys - the car looks brand new.
  6. Hello, I am shopping around for a competitive quote on bit of body work on a VW Lupo GTI. The damage was present when I bought the vehicle a couple of years ago and have been meaning to get them sorted. There are three main areas I would like repaired/resprayed, of which I have outlined and photographed below. Front bumper (off-side)- 4" scratch/scrape. Has been touched up at some point. Rear bumper (near-side)- Identical damage as front bumper. Near-side passenger door- Small 1" scratch- Rust bubbling on lower corner of door Does anyone have any recommendations of good, reasonable folk that would be able to help? Any help would be much appreciated! Many thanks.
  7. Hi all, Just looking for a little advice. A small and mysterious dent has appeared on the upper half of the rear strut and I'm hoping to get behind the panel to work it back out. Could any one here offer any advice on how best to access the behind of this panel? Photo shows the affected area. Many thanks!
  8. Hello! The driver-side rear speaker of my Lupo GTI has started 'buzzing' when hitting certain notes. Has anyone else had any similar problems? Does anyone know how much a replacement speaker would be or have any space replacements they would be willing to sell? Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.
  9. Done it! Just had to be a bit rougher than I thought. The operation was a success! Having just looked at the behind of the wheel you're diagram you've just uploaded is spot on. Only thing I had to do was remove the 2 small clips from the old airbag on the new one. Reconnected the battery and no airbag faults/warning light on the dash. Thanks you for all your help!
  10. Thanks. Securing hooks look different in the guide you've posted though. I've managed to get the left and the right side unclipped but now the bottom spoke is firmly stuck in still and there isn't a third hole! How do I unclip the bottom one? Sorry for being so inept!
  11. Just re-read the how to. So. What I'm trying to do is get the screw driver head above the spring so that I can pry it down (not compress the spring). Is that right?
  12. Try as I might, I just can't get the airbag unhooked... I can feel the springs but I can't release any clips. Help!
  13. Thanks - so I've heard. I'm going to be attempting the operation this weekend. Any other advice or info?
  14. Were Xenon washers an optional extra when buying a GTI from new or did they come as standard?
  15. I purchased a new 3 spoke steering wheel airbag to replace the slightly scratched one currently sitting in my Lupo GTI. I just wanted to check a few things with people who have gone through this procedure before. These are the steps I have gathered that I need to go through: 1). Disconnect negative (-) battery cable 2). Remove airbag by releasing 2 clips from the back 3). Disconnect any wiring 4). Do steps 3 - 1 in reverse with new airbag Once I've reconnected the battery is there anything I need to do/check? Other than loosing the trip counter, clock time and having to re-key the radio, is there anything else I should know about or that may reset or cause problems? Will the airbag light be stuck on afterwards? Any tips, advice or info will be appreciated!
  16. Just looking for a mini-check list. If I disconnect the battery from my Lupo GTI what steps will I need to go through to get everything back up and running again when I reconnect it? I've read about radio coding and something about electric window auto settings (not sure what this is). I just want to have everything clear in my head before I do anything. Thanks all.
  17. I am now the proud owner of a very sweet Lupo GTI I want to be able to plug my iPod/iPhone into my audio system (the default GAMMA stereo is installed). I know that VW sell a connection kit but with installation is isn't exactly a cheap solution. Are the kits hard to install yourself and do they work with the iPhone? Are there any other working methods of connecting an iPod/iPhone to the stereo (either via a Dock connector or audio-jack). Ideally I would like the cable to accessible from the storage space immediately below the GAMMA head unit. Thanks a lot - any help or advice will be most appreciated!
