  1. You could try this (it’s not a permanent fix btw) take the lower cover off the steering column and give the plug on the back of the ignition barrel a wiggle and make sure its plugged in all the way whilst having the key on accessory (the click before crank) if the dash comes back to life chances are it’s the ignition switches. If it doesn’t change anything idk what it could be this is just from my own experience and I’m not a mechanic I’ve done this on my mk1 Seat Arosa and it got it going again.
  2. Thanks for your help I filled it up today as I had to fix a leak behind the fifth gear cover. the gearbox took 2.5 litres before it started coming out of the fill hole and i used this oil https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373537080219 it seems to be pretty decent quality stuff and the car is shifting great
  3. Just thought I would reply to this topic with an explanation of why my gearbox was actually leaking. What had caused the leak was rust, it had crept up in between the tin plate and the rubber gasket/seal as when I pulled off the cover the was big flakes of rust between the mating surface of the rubber and the tin plate. So I cleaned up the tin plate with a wire wheel on a bench grinder and just picked any rust off the rubber with my fingernail, and then put some Dirko gasket silicone on the tin plate and bolted it back on. I have yet to put oil in the gearbox because I am waiting on the silicone to set so fingers crossed it doesn’t leak.
  4. My engine has milky residue on the oil cap, I cleaned it off 2 or 3 weeks ago and its back. Anyone know what could be causing this. The car is not showing any tell tale signs of headgasket problems and its only got 46224 miles on the clock. The Engine code is AER if that makes any difference. Thanks
  5. If your still looking for Head Restraints polo 6n ones fit
  6. Thanks buying that particular oil off eBay will work out to be way to expensive because I live Northern Ireland on the shipping is £16. But found this 2 with free shipping it seems to be to same spec https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/373537080219?hash=item56f88b839b:g:NdQAAOSw4plctfKK https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294135977900?hash=item447bded7ac:g:cZoAAOSwCGVX96kB

  10. @mk2 by hex cap bolt do you mean the oil drain or the bolt that goes throught the cover? from what i see its just the 5th gear cover thats leaking ill get a better looking at it tomorrow. Hopefully i havent roasted 5th i didnt know that could happen nor did i know the gearbox had plastic parts in it. Thanks so much for all the info btw. cause i had tried looking on elsawin but its a bit vague on how to go about it.
  11. I bought a little 1999 1.0 Litre Arosa September last year as my first car. but I think the gearbox is leaking but not the selector shaft, from what I can see it looks like the side cover behind the left hand wheel Is leaking its got a big VW stamp on it(I think its the final drive/cluster?). Has anyone tackled this issue before? And what kind of gaskets/oil does it require? (I know it needs G50 75W90 but how do I identify if it needs synthetic or mineral?)
