  1. PS Name is McLauchlin not McLaschlin, sorry
  2. Just removed the alternator from a 1.0 petrol Lupo. Looked at the Lupo info and thought I might add something uselful: Battery flat. Couldn't detect a decent voltage output from alternator. Decided to check brushes. No space to remove brushholder cover in situ so had to remove alternator. Seems long-winded but necessary and pretty easy. No need to lower engine! Loosen N/S roadwheel. Jack up the N/S front as high as jack and safety axle stand will allow. Remove wheel. Remove plastic wheel arch cover - 13 x T25 torx screws (come out easily). Front panel dropped down, removed at 2 clips. Panel covering aux belt secured by 2 silly 'spoked wheel' clips. Unscrew with long-nose pliers in 'spokes' whilst gently prising panel away with big screwdriver. Spokes may bend and need straightening to replace. Unclip and remove large hose ciip on front left with Mole grips. Pull hose off engine cover and pillar in wing. Remove engine cover for accessibility ( 2 x10mm bolts under small covers frfont then one hose left and 2 narrower hoses right (note which goes where)) Unclip plastic connector on alternator front with small screwdriver in front slot. Undo nut holding alternator output cable (13mm socket). From under car remove 8mm nut securing cable to alternator. Turn 16mm tensioner bolt clockwise with long ring spanner. Remove belt from crankshaft pully to slacken belt enough to be able to lift alternator away from belt when ready. 2 long bolts hold alternator. Lower one now revealed but set back. Can just get 13mm socket on to loosen and remove with fingers. Can just waggle bolt out below side member. Remove top bolt - very accessible. Alternator tight fit. Use crow bar (yes!) to gently prise it out from the top. Lift alternator upwards out of engine compartment. Brushes under plastic cover on right. Secured at 3 points. One 14mm nut, one 13mm nut under cable securing nut and one crosshead screw. Brushholder held by 2 crosshead screws either side of holder adnd another screw to right. My brushes look OK so more investigation needed. So naven't refited alternator but refitting looks like straightforward reversal of removal. Apologies for any errors or differences with your Lupo! Hope that helps someone! Best wishes
