  1. Yes, without crank sensor there is no ignitions, however there is cam sensor without crank sensor the ECU thinks engine is not turning. I will copy/paste my previous written information how You can easy check if your sensor is malfunctioning. Lupo crank sensor has 3 wires, when it is connected and reading the middle wire should always show either +5V or 0V. If the sensor shows +5V (when reads magnetic surface) or 0V (when reads nothing) it is working, to make sure installed sensor is working turn your crankshaft, easiest way to turn it a bit is puting your car in gear and pushing it tinybit. You can use this method to check both your old and your new sensor, more over you can even check sensor which is not installed, just put bottom of sensor near any magnetic surface.
  2. Hi, its part number is 6X0500047 and its same for every Lupo and Arosa model. https://7zap.com/en/part/VOLKSWAGEN/6x0500047/ You can use your old drums on it.
  3. Dont get me wrong, I totally feel You, I enjoy driving my Lupo manual very much, however these small transmissions dont handle slowing down with engine very well, especially if final speed bearings are starting to get worn out. DSG gearboxes lately are pretty good, they save fuel and brakes as well as you do with manual gearbox. Also they have two actual clutches, therefore you can feel the car very simillary like with manual gearbox, you can also exactly chose which gear you need or even switch it in sport mode to simply increase RPMs. But this is not the case, Mk4s dont have these type of automatic gearboxes, they are just like you described them and I totally understand your willing to switch to manual. Car which could be most likely described as Lupo extended version is Polo extended version - Polo Variant. Somehow the only one I have ever driven had very soft and comfy suspension unlike my Lupo.
  4. @oprnThank you for your posts, I really enjoyed Your stories a lot! I hope you will get a good car for your wife and packages will not grow in size (and weight). Take a note that JIS cars have turn signal switch in opposite side as well as have RHD steering wheel. Why don't you like automatic gearboxes, dual mass flywheels have expensive problems as well? Is intake valve carbon cleaning with walnut blasting ineffective? Direct injection gasoline engine with stratified charge mode is very comfy and fun to drive, especially the large capacity ones, for example BMW N53 engine. But they are never reliable, just enough for 4year lease.
  5. if you have problems with both - 5th and reverse gears, then part No11 is most likely missing.
  6. The only thing I like better in replaceble filter cartiges is that you can easily breake them apart and see if there is something caught in them.
  7. I have seen this before and for the first time fully understanded what are you trying to show. I think the few drops of oil in clean oil feed is nothing bad, because the oil have already gone through oil pump and all solid particles is already catched in oil filter cartige. They already did good job by making port to move the old oil straight back to oil sump.
  8. These are also called flangues, the one in link is 20mm, that is very much for small car like Lupo, you will need rims with a lot of offset to compensate that. You can try to fit something 20mm wide between rim and hub and then you will see how far the rim will be placed. Also, You will need longer rim bolts. More likely you can enlarge the center bore of rim from inside.
  9. You can not, @mk2 says it is not possible to even bypass it with emulator. Actually I dont know how to repair it, I would take it to a car electrician.
  10. Exactly this happens if you have faulty imobiliser.
  11. Look the same, thermostst flange looks same too. Imho worth trying.
  12. You can use 5th gear from your old gearbox if you want to go faster. Also, if you managed to use 1.6engine might be you can install larger flywheel and more durable gearbox?
  13. Didnt know GTI share same radiator hoses with nonGTI Lupos, they are widely available as aftermarket, for example GATES 3972.
  14. Yes, starter out and 1 screw is holding sensor in place. VW use the silly 4mm hex bolt as OEM, and usually it just tears apart instead of coming loose. If you have 5mm bolt as replacement use it. You can easy check if your sensor is really malfunctioning. Lupo crank sensor has 3 wires, when it is connected and reading the middle wire should show +5V or 0V.
  15. You can remove it from car and replace lock barrel and all other broken parts.
  16. Try etka catalogue on www.7zap.com , find and check if it fits your engine code.
  17. Lupo has “ISO” wiring for radio unit, you can use any DIN or doubble-DIN unit you like. If your radio unit has different than ISO wiring you need to buy an adapter, for example 16pin to iso adapter, for example, you can also search for “Pioneer to ISO adapter”, since Pioneer use 16pin wiring its the same.
  18. Try to make the OBD to wait on “connecting” phase, only then turn on the ignition, works for me.
  19. Welcome! Great story! I can clearly see Your Arosa have suffered but is in good shape. And I wondered how was that possibe to have 1.6 engine in Arosa, and this explains everything.
  20. I think if you select 4th gear with FFR gearbox you should be able to run 100mph as well.
  21. Yes, but your final drive also changed from FFR 3,875 to DKG 4,063, therefore overall ratio will be not as long as before, but much closer the FFR than now.
  22. Its 085 gearbox, you can use any of them as long its with cable shifter, from Polo 6n2 or Lupo. The small 190mm clutch dont leave much place for upgrades.
  23. Great! I love your persistance to post all these little upgrades, and repairs. Why is there a shallow groove in middle of all turnable caps?
  24. Would it even be possible to really add 6th gear to 085gearbox? I think it would take at least custom made shafts and cap, 6th gear sprockets, and transformed selector shaft, and in the end it would coast more than Lupo itself. It depends on what RPM’s you have on highway and what you want to get. Also it is important to know your gearbox code, because there are several differential ratios on these gearboxes, which you cant change as easy as 5th speed gears.
  25. Yes, remaping can increase mpg and power at same time, ebay chip is very low improvement.
