  1. I'm freezing looking at YOUR picture! Get a shirt on girl! 😄 Last year wasn't as bad, only -16 but the wind chill made it feel like -23. There were a few braver souls there too...
  2. Oh look! we have warmed up to -25 this morning! Heat wave! Just kidding! Oh yes! Everything is stiff. Even the tyres are out of round and go bump, bump for a few miles. If you have any weak seals this is the time it will show up. Sometime the fuses will blow when you turn the wipers on. Starter Bendix tends to stick and belts can squeal. Not usually though. I don't mind the low temperatures so much as long as the air is calm but it does not take much wind to make it bloody miserable! We would normally have had our annual ice race here this weekend but with the forecast being for more of the same we put it off for 2 weeks. The cars would be fine but those officiating would have has a miserable time of it out there with pens and stop watches in hand in the wind. So we will have to wait a bit to see how Franklin stacks up against the others on the ice! Here is a couple photos of last year.
  3. Well we had a little fly in the ointment yesterday. It's been between -30 and -40 in the mornings for two weeks now and the Missus called me up - no heat in the cabin and the temp gauge is in the red. Oh crap! Didn't we have the antifreeze drained and refilled with stronger stuff 3 months ago? Yes we did! Not pleased! Why do these mechanics think I have STUPID written across my forehead? So - drain it out and refill again with stronger stuff and no harm done... I hope!
  4. Mud is much worse! All vehicles do it.
  5. Running like a champ! Starting no problem right down to -24 without being plugged in. A bit slow to warm up and clear the windows but certainly no worse than our TDIs. The snow builds up inside the rims then part of it breaks off and the car shakes like a paint mixer but all our cars do that! Interesting about the 1.7!
  6. Nice to see another Lupo owner here! Good to hear you have it on the road again too. Very sorry to hear about your plans for the paint work, while I am not a big fan of blue cars I am much less a fan of taking a perfectly good car and making it look like it has spent the last 30 years as a butt scratching post for a herd of cows with mange. I am not sure where this latest fad has come from but I wish it would go away. It's just hard on the eyes! Enjoy your car and I would love to see more details and pictures of that 1.7 liter engine. They don't exist on this side of the pond.
  7. What did you stuff in there Rich? P.S. give me a quote on the two green Lupo pins with clips with postage and we will get the $ to you.
  8. Ok! I just got the joke! Good one! Not being a partaker myself I'm a bit slow on the uptake! (intake?) At any rate, what is the verdict? Go? No go?
  9. I'm amazed at all theses different engines you all talk about that I didn't even know existed!
  10. A dirty big boulder took this bit off about 3 weeks back. Sure glad neither of them hit the windscreen!
  11. Oh yes, we got a pan heater glued to the oil pan. So far so good!
  12. It was a mild day today at -6 so it didn't freeze up too bad. We had an hour's drive home too so all was good. We do have the automatic car washes, that episode was chronicled earlier! 🙄 Yes I do want to repaint the bonnet anyway at some point as it is sun bleached badly. You will have noticed that parts of the front and the passenger's door are different shades of green already so it will get interesting to see how close the color comes out this time. If I can get access to the tints I can make it right myself.
  13. Just for chuckles I took a shot of Franklin in the wand wash bay. My shop pickup takes up most of that bay past the end of the curtain and sticks out into the isle and making it awkward to get around. Look at the room here! Sorry about the fog, it was pretty damp in there. I see we got our first road rash. Sad but part of the game I suppose, if you drive them...
  14. This one was slow!
  15. Ok thanks! There have never been any 3 cylinder VW engines on this side of the pond to my knowledge. The first Rabbit (Gulf in your land) diesels in '76 were 1.3 liter n/a. They quickly upped them to 1.6, the turbo diesel came here in '84 (I had one) then sometime in the late '80s they dropped the n/a diesel. We have not seen an n/a diesel since. Interesting!
  16. Excuse my ignorance. What is an SDI?
  17. Two green ones to Canada?
  18. No I was thinking more along political lines but we won't go there on this site. Off limits I believe.
  19. Well - there are some other indicators beside the size of those manuals... 😆
  20. So is that why Kinder eggs are illegal in the US of A? Maybe them Yankies is smarter than they looks... Hmmm?
  21. Sorry! I didn't mean to offend you, I was just giving you a hard time in reference to some posts a while back about Pete...
  22. I am not the one with the reputation here...😉 and this is the "CAR" forum in case you have mixed it up with the dating site again!
  23. That my friend was exactly my reaction when I read it! Mscherryviolet did not disappoint us I see! 😄
  24. Sorry I answered this on your other thread and I can't seem to move it here!
  25. Rarely ever is a used car sold without a reason. The best you can do is look it over, drive it around and get a mechanic that you trust to have a look at it. The reason it is on the market will often be evident, sometimes the seller will level with you and save you the bother of finding out yourself. Most times (I have only bought 1 new car in my 40+ years of driving and it took 3 years to sort the bugs out of it!!) it is something you won't know about or suspect until it rears it's ugly head down the road later. I have learned that is just part and parcel of car ownership. Some makes and models are known to be bad buys but other than that I just buy one that suits me, looks fairly clean and sort it out as I find things. Oops! This was supposed to go on your other thread! Sorry! To answer your question on this thread, I do like the smaller bumper look but now you need to do the same to the front to balance out the appearance. And yes it would be difficult to maintain the crash integrity of the stock bumper in the downsized version but it would look so much cleaner!
