  1. Well my clutch nightmare continues. Ordered one of these. after vacuuming out brake fluid from the reservoir, I back bled the system. Constantly watching the reservoir, I was pleased when a few bubbles of air came out - I thought great the guys were correct. Sadly the relief was short lived as there was no change, so dived inside and ordered a click and collect from Euro's for a Sachs slave with weekend 37%. Drove 2 thirds of the way to find I had left my wallet at home! wallet collected, part purchased, fitted - so much easier with the hose disconnected - clutch line bled again. Jumped into the Lupo, there was now some resistance, but it still seemed light. Engine off, clutch down gear changes felt a little better, but there was now change with engine on. For the slave swap, I had drained the line and reservoir into a shallow dish on inspection I could see a 1mm fleck of rubber - suggesting a seal had failed. Old slave does not show any obvious failure and thinking about the clutch install, I believe its pretty much impossible to screw up fitment: The pressure plate wont fit over the clutch plate if it's the wrong way round, pressure plate can only be mounted in one position on the flywheel, the release bearing can only clip into the lever one way, the tube that locates the release bearing can only bolt onto the bell housing one way and lastly the lever can only clip in one way - with slave off I checked the lever, it seems to be in the same location, clipped into the bell-housing Do you good folk agree that its got to be the master cylinder?
  2. Solid figures - is it Exhaust manifold + system and filter all you have had done engine wise?
  3. Nice link - Thanks @lupo1.0se good to see recognition of our cars. Lots of random stuff - stumped by what a "Puffer" could be. Never knew there was a 4x100 Madras but at nearly 260 euros a piece I think I will leave them!
  4. Did they fit dual mass flywheel on the SDI?
  5. Is that to test the slave? - slave limiter: Fizzy drinks bottle - neck cut off, lid on, cable tie around collar and 2 other ties looped through first tie & bolt holes I will try backfilling first, using vacuum on disconnected feed pipe & some form of hopper on the slave nipple still think its master cylinder -Sadly this will all have to wait till next weekend
  6. There is no change in the pedal feel. as mentioned in build thread it is a lot lighter than it was before - no difference in feel selecting gear clutch up or down. Nothing is moving. @Sausage Yes The old fluid was full of crud, some of it looked black. cant remember if it was the first flushed fluid - suggesting slave - or later being master cylinder. Was that back flushing you described - as suggested by Pete? Run out of light and I am away tomorrow
  7. I have one man pressure kit - don't like it. if you reduce the tyre pressure it does not do too much and keeps needing blown up. If you dont reduce the tyre pressure it puts too much pressure on the system. I have a hand vacuum pump kit & also a vacuum kit for the compressor -but the compressor is out of action just now. The vacuum only sucks fluid out when the pedal is down, but it only takes the same amount each time I'm still convinced there is a faulty hydraulic item, when I took the box and clutch off there was a lot of dust - close to packed with clutch dust - could well be something weak
  8. No change - I have put a third of a litre of brake fluid through it ...and just to add to the joy, the nipple is starting to round off

    GTI Upgrades

New coil and rear Lambda turned up on Thursday, again its been raining heavy so did not get to round to sorting till today. The Good news - these seem to have sorted the check engine light out, starting and running a lot better The Bad news - bled the brakes again, but brakes still felt spongy. My driveway has a slope that does not help bleeding, decided to put it back on its wheels (Yay!) went to move it and found my clutch wasn't dis-engaging - engine starts with gears in neutral but not with it in gear - started another thread to cover this HERE
  10. You think air in the system? Forgot to mention that when I did the clutch I didn't disconnect the slave from its hose - removed form gearbox and tucked it to one side - only reason I bled it was to the old brake fluid was grotty, as usual clutch was even worse.
  11. Glad you are working it through the problem. It doesn't take much to jam a joint, there could have been a little bit of grit in the joint that found its way into the joint - did you clean out and re-pack the joints? or are the as you got them? I ran over a 3x3 fence post at 70 in my old Mk3 - I will spare the details - but the suspension travel was further than normal and the impact dislodged something in the one of the drive shaft joints, wheel balanced, but there was still a horrible vibration that made me feel sick - fixed with a new driveshaft.
  12. OK - as title new clutch kit, suspect something in the hydraulics was on the way out before I parked the Lupo. New pressure plate must be a good bit stronger and finished the worn hydraulic part off. First bleed : I initially used a one-man with a one way valve, seemed to work OK. Second bleed : after Discovering the problem, manually bled - no fluid coming out, pedal returning. Third bleed: vacuum pump, fluid coming out, but pedal staying down. So - what has broken? I get the feeling its master cylinder??
  13. Think the old E was close to 2 tones - mine was just run in at 275K miles! - and was pretty quick
  14. Did I mention I needed it to be reliable? - afraid that rules the Rangy out. Any-hoo if I was to get one it would have to be like the Layer Cake one! M103 engine? Used to have a E-class
  15. Ah, but I have not shared the G wagen dream with wife! I may be over simplifying this... but in baby steps - Move to remote place where 24 hour shopping does not exist, Sunday shopping is looked upon as the work of the Antichrist, the internet is slow and uber + just eat just dont work. Find out bad weather requires 4 wheel drive just to get home Suggest G Wagen as creative and inspired solution Do you think that could work?
  16. Do you both convert G-Wagens? Always loved them - wife keeps suggesting moving to the country, would love to get one of them...or a Unimog, but that's in a different league
  17. Looking great - what bushes did you go for? and those discs also look tasty Cant remember what rear ARB you run - if its a Whiteline the drop links go on the outside of the beam like on mine: I wish my shocks were more like yours being not so crusty!
  18. Usually there is a good enough space for the shaft to shorten and extend, could the shaft be jammed in the outer cup - with the shaft then pulling on the inner joint? Before disturbing the powerflex bushes, I would strip the outer CV first, then look at your engine mounts - I truly cringe thinking of anyone dealing with those stupid disks top and bottom on the rear bush, what a complete PITA to fit with the arm. The bushes should have softened up a bit with use. Literally after the first second of your film there is a loud crack during the RH corner, could that be the failure point? during the rest of the film it is an extended LH bend - with the ball jammed, joint distended, joint fell apart. Got to say I don't think its an issue of small balls, the film shows lots of driver commitment in those bends!
  19. Think they were picking up the 240z. they didnt get up to much But you should check out Juicebox unboxed, that is if you can get past their arsing about - they did a trip to Japan and it was all that
  20. Where on earth do you get Gelandwagens for £5K? and what do you do by night -are you Batman? At OP - Nice conversion & well done selling
  21. Good work Sausage That crud on the needle roller - that was it eating itself wasn't it?
