  1. TheFish's post in Change Lupo TDI temperature sensor - wrong parts? was marked as the answer
All ok now, temp going to 70 then 90......
I just swung the alternator down - I used a sealey vs1663 hose clamp tool too....made getting the top hose off soooooo easy.
Be careful when replacing the horse shoe on sensor. Naturally, it has to seat in the slot. The blind side can bend up out the way, so push the sensor against the O ring and allow the horse shoe clip to slot it. Once secure, you know when its in correctly! Took me about 20 mins to strip the engine all down, using a 16mm spanner to release the tensioner node (pull it towards you) to slip off the toothed belt. Then remove the 3 x 13mm bolts holding the tensioner. That makes getting to the alternator long bolts easy. Just wiggle the airbox on left to get top bolt out, just loosen the lower one. Dont forget to put cardboard or bubblewrap against radiator as the alternator swings down with a thump.....

With the 2 x bolts off the thermostat housing. Its only 5 mins work to get the alternator out the way to get this level of access to it.....

Brass end on old sensor was very blackened, but there was evidence of damp/wet in the plug end....by sensor was going up and down a bit, as wel as the lower pipe staying cold, which I concluded was a faulty new part.....(although on removal in a pan of water, it worked fine!)

On the male end (on car) I used electrical contact cleaner and then added the new temp sensor

  2. TheFish's post in Special tool (?) for alternator tensioner AND tools for hose clips was marked as the answer
Yep, just had it delivered.....nice bit of kit...just popped it on a hose clip......no problem at all....like having a 3rd hand really ! Its not that it wasn't do'able before, its just that it was a struggle....great....
  3. TheFish's post in Wipers sticking/stop when wiper stalk is operated was marked as the answer
Fixed with new wiper stalk. Old stalk had bust, as has like a half way point, where the wipers just froze. Felt like some knackered old Citroen or something from the 70's. All done now, works fine.
  4. TheFish's post in Has my Lupo got headlight covers on? Can anyone confirm? was marked as the answer
Ok....same on BMW Z3 for angel eyes etc.....ok, so no covers on. Have noted some glass refurb kits so will give those a try or my Bentley smokers toothpaste a crack first. Spoke to vw and they only sell sealed units at £110, so the lens can't be bought on its own. At least I know what's what now and I know this is just the light unit now....cheers
