  1. I've seen a few genuine VW ones listed on Ebay the last few weeks. The going rate 2nd hand seems to be about 20 quid a handle. Not sure if this is cheap or expensive. You can buy metal universal fitment winders for about 10 quid for 2 handles.
  2. How many silencers does the system have? Is it a centre section and a rear section? If you want to gain a bit more sound then chop one out, i'm not sure what one would sound best removed but removing just one of them will increase the volume. I wouldn't bother with cutting one open and removing all the baffles, just cut the whole thing out and weld a pipe in it's place. Any decent exhaust place will be able to do this for you
  3. No no smoke at all? I will take it off on Saturday and see if there's any problems with any of the piping, i'll be able to have a better look at the turbo too. I've done some googling on the vnt turbo's and i think getting one to work properly is going to take a bit longer than the time i have sadly :(. Once i get the turbo issue sorted out i will get it mapped. I will look into the N75 valve. Shame i don't know anyone local to me who could scan it. I'd be happy with 100bhp if i could, something that gives a bit more power. A bottle neck on these things has got to be the Cat? It looks tiny! I'm going to chop that out and fit a straight pipe in, does that liven them up? I've removed my rear box, i might take out the centre box too. The air filter had not long been changed but i will check this too.
  4. Mines on 230k now and still going strong, although i think i'm replacing the turbo next weekend, not bad considering its on it's original. I can see it reaching 300k within the next 18 months. It just eats up the miles and costs peanuts to run even with servicing it.
  5. If you were to have the rev limiters removed the the cars would be a bit quicker in those gears too. There's a fair bit of usable power to be had after the first limiter cuts in.
  6. Guys cheers for the info. So it might be the N75 valve then and not the turbo? Not that they have a lot but it's deffo down on power. If it was the turbo that was buggered i was wondering if there are any 'bolt on' upgraded turbos that can be fitted without modding? I've spoken to a couple of companies and they will supply a fully recon OEM Garrett turbo for £200 (exchange basis) so i'm not too worried about rebuilding this one if it is gone. I will take the one off that's on now on Saturday and have a look if there's any play. It's dripping oil out of the turbo and its covered in the stuff so i just took it as being knackered? I will look at buying a new N75 too. The car has done a few miles now. It's on 230k. Up until the slight power loss it ran fine, it still does run fine but it's just down a bit on power. My plan when i bought the car was to make it into a little sleeper but i do a lot of miles in it so decided to leave it standard but seeing as the turbo might have gone i wouldn't mind upgrading it? Also, since the loss in power the mpg has dropped. Where i could get 60/65mpg on a run i can just about manage 50mpg, its around 45/50mpg.
  7. I'm basically after some options on replacement turbo's for my lupo tdi. As far as I'm aware the turbo on the car has done 230k now and I've recently noticed the car has got slower and is not boosting as much as it did. The fuel economy has also gone down a little. I've had a look at the turbo and it's covered in oil and looks like it's got a leak? I'm going to replace it but I'm wondering if there's any alternatives to the standard ones thats fitted? Does the Seat Arosa use the same turbo or a bigger turbo that produces more bhp, would this bolt straight on too? I have a picture that I will try and upload, it shows the turbo on the car and what a mess it looks.
  8. My tdi's on 230k now
  9. I know how heat soak works lol. I'm not putting the filter inside the engine bay its going outside. The same as the Carbonio style above. It eliminates any heat soak from the engine. The filter isnt going in the bay, its in the wing or deep down in the front bumper.
  10. That diesel purge is brilliant! I will give that a go next week! Did the car drive better/smoother after you had given it a flush? Mines done 200k so i bet its full if shizzle lol. The only reason I'm going to change the air filter/box is because they suffer from so much heat soak from inside the engine bay, the standard filter gets ridiculously hot so taking the filter outside of the engine you almost eliminate any heat soak and of course its freer flowing. I'm not a fan and never have been with just bolting on a K&N filter and leaving it inside the bay but if you can get the filter out of the bay you stand a very good chance of improving the running of the car. I've done tests with different filters on the golf and the results were very interesting. I will post them up. We did intake temps, filter temps, engine bay temps etc.
  11. I will keep the lambda sensors in, i'm not going to take them out. Cats are so restrictive, if i can do away with it without much hassle then i will remove it then . It's provisionally booked in on Saturday to have it done. I'm going to get it mapped too. I'm not chasing bhp numbers or loads of speed but just something that makes the drive a little more fun. I'm going to see if i can buy a CAI for it, if not i'm going to make one up that takes the filter outside of the engine bay. I've bought the car mainly for my Mrs when she passes her test so i can't go too mad but I'm going to be driving it too
