Hi, my Lupo is a 1.4Tdi and I use an e-manual on VMware player but as I'm old school and like the feel of oily paper what manual would you advise to cover this engine?

You could try the coolant temp sender also as the cpu takes data from several points during the glow plug warm up cycle. Unplug the sender and the cpu thinks it's below 0 if it starts normally that's your problem (do this on an overnight cold engine )

just downloaded and extracted, you have to install a VMware player to run it, that's a bit of a faf or maybe because I run Linux mint and not windows? so what do I think of it? it makes Haynes look like The Cat in the Hat next to War and Peace!! very comprehensive (German) more info than you will ever need. It will take some time to learn how to navigate but from first impressions it should be worth it. Mike www.emanualonline.com
