  1. Okay, cool. Cheers for the help guys!
  2. Do they push out at all? I don't expect electric, but just pop-out would be handy.

    Hi all

I'm new around here. My name's Tom, and I'd like to give you a bit of a backstory. My uncle got me into VWs back when I was about 14/15. He used to live down south and would come back to Wales every so often to visit. He loved his Golfs, and whenever I talked to him on the phone it'd be all we talked about. So one day he turned up here in a Lhasa green mk1 GTi and I couldn't believe it. He still says today (almost 20 years later) that selling it was one of the the worst decisions he's ever made! He's since owned countless mk2 (8 and 16v), mk3 and mk4 Golfs. But nothing gave him the feeling the mk1 did. (He did say the 16v mk2 was probably the closest) My history with Golfs is only one. A 3-door, black 16V mk3 I bought when I got my first proper job. It was a lovely model - 150bhp, nice wheels, stainless steel exhaust. I like cars modified, but also to still look kinda OEM (if you get me). This Golf was a great runner until the head gasket went. I got it fixed and it was never the same after, so I sold it and got a BMW 320td Compact. The reason I'm here is I've always had a soft spot for VW GTi models. They carry such esteem, and as I my uncle said, you don't look out of place anywhere in a nice VW GTi. I remember the first time I spotted the Lupo GTi - I had to take a second take! I knew the standard Lupo models as a bit of a 'girls car' (can we say that these days?) - small, lightweight, easy to handle etc. I could not believe VW had made a GTi model! Anyway, I never thought about this car again for years. Then early this year I saw one fly past me on the way home from work. It was debadged so I wasn't sure what it was at first, then once I got home I did a bit of research. After more and more digging I found the full spec, and noticed a lot of people class it as the spiritual successor to that original mk1 GTi. Lightweight, 125bhp. It sounds so much fun. I was also impressed by the interior. A lot of the superminis from that generation had awful interiors, but the Lupo still kept a certain standard, befitting even the Polo and Golf. I was also impressed with the 2002+ model having a six speed gearbox. So, guess what. Now I want one really bad! I have a few questions though. 1. How do they handle? From what I can tell from pictures they sit slightly high for my liking. Does this affect the handling? 2. Do these things have the classic VW MFA? 3. What can I expect in terms of electrics? Windows? Mirrors? 4. MPG? Average? Could I hit 40? My run to work is 17 miles of fairly straight roads, with about 3 towns in between. 5. What insurance group are they? 6. Do all GTi models have the 8 speaker audio system? 7. How is cruising on a motorway in 6th? What sort of RPM at around 80mph? 8. How much would you cough up for a 2003 model with low mileage (50-70k)? 9. Are after market parts still available? 10. Please tell me how much fun they are to drive!! Cheers all!
