    Laura's Lupo

Haven't updated this in a while. So the Lupo is alive and well. I can say 100% that the wheels and lowering springs haven't affected the practical usability of the car at all. I was afraid the back tyre would scrub off the arch, but its grand and I can carry a little bit of weight with no problems, Car isn't too solid or harsh on the road either. Apart from a Labrador and various bits and bobs this is what I used to usually carry around I stripped the TDI lupo and sent whatever wasn't needed to the scrap yard, it's now actually cut in half. Lupos are incredibly easy to strip ( as I'm sure you all know! ) especially this one as it was from Italy there was no rust on it, and I mean no rust anywhere, no seized bolts, nothing. What would I give to come across a Golf in the same condition! The below plus a philips head screw driver is enough to work away on a lupo and strip all the interior and more The TDI lupo has ( or had ) pop out windows, which I love. They were a 5 minute job to remove, I just have to make the time to take out my current back windows and replace them with the pop out ones. I recently moved to Dublin City and live in town so the Lupo only gets driven really at the weekends. The seats in the car are pretty good compared to other 1.0L cars of a similar age but on a drive to my home house in Mayo ( 3.5 - 4hr journey ) it starts to get a little uncomfortable once you go over the 2.5hr mark. I'd been thinking about new seats for the car for a long time, we all know mk4 seats go in handy enough as do mk3 seats, and some Audi seats. However I didn't like the look of any of them in a Lupo. I'd be an age trying to find Lupo Gti Seats. Next in my head was mk5 GTI seats, however something a bit more suitable, equally as nice and close by popped up - 9n3 GTi seats. I got all the seats to fit in the boot too So that's it for now. Windows are an easy job, seats will be a complicated one. Next is to get an all black/dark grey interior. Here's a shot of it I took it on my way home from mountain biking one day a while ago.
  2. Will do One small thing, the Lupo TDI is LHD, so concerns have been raised about the loom, as the clocks / fusebox / ECU are on opposite sides in the cars so the wires may not stretch but I'm thinking if I picked up a loom from a same year RHD Lupo/Arosa/Polo Tdi and just used that it should be fine? Or is that even a concern. Also the clutch in the 1.0L is cable and the TDi is hydro so again they are on opposite sides in the engine bays of each car but I assume it will just bolt across into my car?

Thanks! Got new tyres on it and also bought a Lupo Tdi to do an engine conversion as well. The hunt for an all black interior & new seats continues.
  4. Pretty sure I've fixed this, although not 100% as it can be quite a random problem that rears its head but a new set of wiper/indicator stalks seems to have solved the problem!
  5. Hi guys, Bought a Lupo TDi the other day as a doner for my 1.0L . I'm assuming I've made life as easy as possible for myself by doing it this way ( rather than getting a Tdi polo ) I have both lupos side by side in the shed and we'll literally just swap everything over, so I don't see there being any problems ( if I've overlooked something feel free to point it out! ).
  6. I've never seen an Arosa in that colour, looks cool!

Yeah they suit it much better I think than p slots or banded steelies would have ( They were the other wheels I had in mind ). New Clutch is fitted, new grill is sprayed and fitted too. Milo by laura, on Flickr

Took me ages to find a set, well worth it though! Haven't updated this in a while, somebody backed into little Loop a while ago, I had a MK4 GTi bought so I just put the Lupo off the road and have been using the MK4 since. However I miss my Lupo so it coming out of the shed again Damage was minimal to the Car, the grill panel and the bumper was damaged, Just really annoying as there was no excuse for the person who backed into it to have backed into it. Anyway! Getting a new Clutch fitted this week or next. Picked up a few parts off a fella who was breaking a red Lupo down the road from me when I was living in Loughrea. I picked up a set of Clocks, interior bonnet release handle ( already fitted ) , Indicator and wiper stalk and a grill panel. I've sanded and primed the grill panel, will be painted this weekend. How good of a match it'll be to the rest of the paint will be interesting! I've had lego valve caps on the car for a long time but I decided to get a Lego keyring as well Car was sitting like this up until a few weeks ago, I picked up a set of Borbets so it looks like this now, should be getting slimmer tyres fitted this weekend! Currently on 195/50 R15 which is slightly too big so I'm going for 185/45 R15 instead.
  9. My oil light starts flashing every time I drive the car once it heats up. Been like that for about 6 months, Plenty of oil in the car, had the oil pressure checked which was fine and the switch was checked too. My car has tonnes of electrical issues so for a long time I put it down to that but its far too consistent to be an electrical fault. Car was off the road for a while so I kind of forget about it but was driving it today for the first time in ages and that stupid oil light is wrecking my head still! I'm going to replace the oil light switch, if that doesn't fix it I'm going to do a flush, again if that doesn't work the sump will be coming off to make sure there is nothing clogging up the oil pick up pipe etc, oil pump will be next then if all that doesn't work.
  10. Hello all, Quick question, My Lupo's bonnet level became loose and basically fell off whenever I tried to open the Bonnet. Bought a replacement and fitted it today, which was easy apart from the bit where you attached the handle with its retaining clip. If I slide the handle into its grooves on the unit and then put the retaining clip on it feels fine to open the bonnet, as in it feels secure. However this is impossible to do with the piece of interior trim fitted over the lever unit so the only way I can get the handle on is the put the retaining clip on first, click it in and then push the handle into the unit, which leaves the handle feeling like my old one did, like its going to slip or break under pressure. I've also noticed ( now that the handle is on ) I actually don't think I can take it off as there is no space between the retaining clip and the interior trim for the clip to come out. I am missing something here, Is the retaining clip meant to be fitted first and then the handle put on, it doesn't feel like it should be. I'm pretty sure I haven't fitted the interior trim piece wrong as there is only one way to put it back. Its really annoying me as I think I've broken this handle and it'll be ages before I can get another, plus I don't think I can get this on off now! Thanks, Laura

Small update - Finally got cup holders! Have been a while looking for them, all the Lupo's / Arosa's I found for breaking didn't have any, and it was too expensive to buy from the UK with the rate of sterling & Postage. Just when I had decided to go to a VW Dealer and get them new, a set came up for sale 2nd hand about 40min down the road from me. Pic of them & my Radio. I sold my MK2 Golf, so this is now my only daily at the moment

No seats are fully back, she's a bit cramped with the boot closed so I usually fold the seats flat if we're going for a decent spin

So springs came, said 50mm on the website but 40/55mm arrived to me, I'm assuming it 40mm for the Rear and 55 for the Front or is that wrong? They're pretty easy to fit, especially the rears, having said that I didn't put them in on my own, I only helped.... I've only done about 70miles with them but so far so good, obviously the rides a bit harsher that the standard set up but its sound. Back is a tad too high but once I put weight in the back it'd even out, instead of the car sitting on its back bumper. Next is wheels, and start adding to the interior Oh and as small as the boot is I can get a whole labrador in there ha
  15. Hey guys still stuck on this, here's what I've done so far; - Scanned car for codes, none came up - Check earth wires in engine bay, behind bulkhead and behind light switch. All fine - Removed clocks to check for damage to circuit board, again all fine. - Tried new clocks, unfortunately these came out of a 6n2 polo and my lupo seems to be non-canbus so they didn't work. - Checked connections around indicator stalks, fine also. Water ingress in the fuse box was suggested to me but as far as I can tell its bone dry. Going to get another set of clocks ( that will actually work on my Lupo ) and see how I get on.

I love working on it Its a very basic car so good to learn on! Forgot to mention it also got new valve oil seals, it passed its NCT today too New clocks for the dash were useless, wrong ones for my Lupo ( Lupo must be non-canbus, rev counter didn't work and it through up a load of lights ), they cme out of a 6n2 polo

Update time I suppose! Nothing too exciting but anyway Since the last time I updated this; - Oil + Oil Filter - New Radio ( Sony x-plod ) - New speaker ( Passenger side, oem one was goosed ) - Timing Belt + Water Pump - New head Gasket + Head Skimmed - Oil + Oil Filter ( again ha ) - Cleaned the engine bay as it was dirty dirty I'll be changing the fuel filter in it in the coming weeks, it has its NCT ( MOT ) on Friday and it'll be getting a new pressure plate / Clutch as well. I've ordered lowering springs ( FK ,50mm), as you can imagine after the above the funds are depleted so coilovers went out the window, and I also bought another Golf. A set of banded 14" Vento steel wheels will be its new shoes. On the look out for cup holders and a roof rack also. Picked up a set of clocks for it today as I'm having issues with the set that's in it. That's it for now, mostly maintenance so no pics! When the fun bits arrive I'll throw up pics
  18. I've been having some issues with the dash/lights/wipers on the Lupo from day 1, but over the past 6 months of ownership its gotten worse, so I may try and fix it before something goes. Firstly, everything works as it should, I'll list the issues as they happened and maybe someone has an idea of how to fix them. At first, when I'd switch on my lights, the ABS light would flash at me for a second, this was no big deal. Then twice I had smoke come from behind the steering wheel, both times shortly after using my indicators, this hasn't happened again. Now sometimes when I switch my lights from high to low beam or use the wiper stalk, nearly all of the dash lights illuminate at once for a second and go off. And now lately when I'm using my wipers sometimes as my wipers goes up my speedo needle drops, and as the wiper returns to its starting point my speedo returns to whatever speed I'm doing. I'm assuming things have come loose in places and this is whats causing all this, I'd like to have it all tidied up as once I lower it and put low profile tyres on 15's its going to fairly solid on the road, which will bring its own problems. Any help is appreciated!

It is Funky! Nothing major to report, small bit more sticker bombing. Having trouble finding my Borbets, everything is either sold, too far away or sellers are impossible to get in contact with, maybe I'm not meant to mod this car at all ha Having some issues with the electrics. Sometimes when my wipers are on, as they're going up my speedo needle drops, as the wipers return to they're starting point my speedo needle returns to whatever speed I'm doing. Also when I use my indicator or wiper stalk I get various lights on the dash lighting up for a second. We this the speedo/wiper issue is a loose earth and the stalk issues is a connection problem, trial and error will fix it I guess. Pics below of sticker bombing, and of little loop with the mk3 & mk2.
  20. Cheers, that looks alright. Going back to the original plan of the Borbet A's
  21. As per title, just what to know what a 6.5j ET 30 wheel looks like on a little loop. Had my heart set on Borbet A's but a set of Azevs B's have come up for sale in said fitment, I photoshopped them and I think they look well.
  22. Love Onyx! Fair play with the headliner, it looks great
