  1. Don;t rule out the peddle box
  2. Awesomegti recommended the exact opposite to me. He said you get more high end power from having a straight pipe instead of a silencer. Didn't ask about responsiveness though. Check this video out on youtube.
  3. Hi, I have a 1.4tdi and I initially noticed that the gearstick rattled really badly at idle. I can stop the rattle by firmly pushing the gearstick left or right as far as it will go. Also, sometimes I can hear a slight whirring noise when the clutch bites in 1st gear. Usually when cold starting. The car has done 115k miles and has never had a clutch change or a flywheel change.
  4. Weight reduction! Technically it's a performance mod Haha, nah just kidding. Don't like the look of a rear wiper.
  5. I have unbolted all of the bolts from the motor and the 12mm bolt from under the arm cover. Everything is loose but I can't get it to budge! I'm having trouble removing the actual wiper arm from the motor. I'm sure it's something stupid i'm missing. It's been really hot these last couple of days, my brain is melting!!
  6. Yeah I was speaking to somebody from awesomegti, he said the ECU is a self learning one and will make minor adjustments to compensate for the extra exhaust flow. He also said that removing the cat wasn't really worth while but from his experience with his lupo tdi, he did go on to say that replacing the silencer with a straight pipe did create more power top end.
  7. My 1 litre was a pile of crap: Diff was whining EGR needed replacing Needed new brakes, tyre, clutch and exhaust Engine oil leak Two of the cylinders had low compression, suspected head gasket. I guess that is what you get when you buy a car when you don't have a licence and can't test drive it. And view it at night. I only paid £400 and am going to break it to recoup some cash. I need the rear wiper motor for my tdi!
  8. Elephant, but i've only just passed my test last month. It was by FAR the cheapest I could get without getting a daft black box fitted!
  9. I'm interested to know how restrictive the catalytic converters are on the 1.4 tdi's and if anybody has noticed any positive effects of removing one. Would it need to be remapped to get the best from removing one. If so what gains should one expect. For instance, say you already had a remap and you got 100bhp and 180lb/ft's with the cat on.....then you removed the cat and did another remap. I'd be interested if anybody has some evidence of other projects, involving other tdi's aswell. Cheers
  10. Haha! I really love it! Not sure whether to get it chipped, though. My insurance would go up over £300!! Currently paying £850. Probably give it a miss.
  11. I'm not sure whether to get it done at awesome, yet. I'll give them a ring on Monday and try and book in for Thursday if I decide to go with them. I wonder if they will map out the EGR light if I blank it off.
  12. I had problems removing mine. I applied wd40 every day. I had more luck using a 17mm bolt and a spanner than I did with a proper hex key. I guess I wasn't afraid to smash the spanner with a hammer to loosen it.
  13. Good point on the EGR, i'll probably blank it, even if its just to stop the gunk build up! Regarding the tyres, bald tyres are excellent for grip! Bad for driving in the wet!
  14. Yeah, I got one! Absolutely love it! It's a nice change from my 1.0! It's completely standard and i'm a bit skint at the moment. Should be getting a remap next week, although it does feel extremely quick now, scared to think what it could become!
  15. The tyres are brand new. Decent make aswell they were over 50 quid each! It does it when I accelerate very hard from 1st to 2nd gear. Maybe the tyres have too much tread. Less tread would mean a greater surface area to the road and won't wheel spin. It doesn't do it with a full tank and 3 passengers, though. You can get cruise control? Would that mean better MPG? Which filter would you recommend? Would it pass a MOT without a catylic converter? (it's kind of a grey area) Not too sure about deleting the EGR, I hear it warms the engine up faster as hot gasses are entering the combustion chamber. Might sacrifice that one. I'm interested to hear other peoples mods and where they got their remaps.
  16. No pictures yet, my driveway is tiny, and my old arosa is there taking up room! Iv'e been looking for a while for power mods, it seems a remap is the way to go for value for money. I am based in Manchester and have heard mixed reviews about awesomegti, but they have a sale on at the moment: £150 for the remap and can touch 100bhp. Also, at the moment it wheelspins in 2nd gear upon changing from first when accelerating hard, what kind of impact should I expect if I remap it aswell? Will it wheelspin in 3rd? Who has got a remap, then? Also, can anyone advise me some other cheap mods to do before the remap, such as a new panel filter or is a cone filter best?
  17. http://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/vw-lupo-3l-12-tdi/1016520578 Unfortunately it's an automatic. Thought some of you might be interested. Iv'e never seen one for sale before.
  18. I think the fuse may be easiest if I can locate which one. However its good to know other methods, too.
  19. Cheers fellas, hopefully i'll have it at home by about 5pm tomorrow. I'll get some pics up if I do!
  20. Hi, i'm viewing a 1.4 tdi tomorrow a and will be taking it for a test drive. Could anybody tell me if there is anything I should look out for? I'm only aware of the pedal box issues. Also is the clutch hydraulic?
  21. Yeah i'll be removing the plugs anyways. Fuel will still be pouring in though, right? I don't want the fuel to 'fill' the gaps between the cylinder and wall and give me an innacurate result as the compression will be higher because the fuel will be sealing any gaps I am trying to expose.
