  1. SDI Engine cover caps converted!
  2. It seems to be getting more difficult with VAG discontinuing a lot of original parts (eg snapped clutch cable) for Lupo/Arosa/Polo 6N. Some of the soft parts eg drive gaiters have expiry dates on original VW parts. Does anyone have an opinion as to how relevant these dates are? Cambelts I've been told don't have a shelf life until they're actually fitted - unlike the above. Thoughts, anyone? Clutch cable support 6N1 721 981. What does it do, if anything? Is it a wear part? Whilst researching have come across some more obscure items: SDI oil pressure switch 038 919 081C (now K) genuine - still available from VAG (££) SDI engine cover rear fixings 028 103 937A the three-legged ones (that break) - Volkswagen Classic Parts (Germany) Lupo clip 6X0 853 575 indicator panel to front wing - eBay from Germany (postage £££). I had ordered a number before and forgotten so currently have more than I will use. PM me if you need some.
  3. I had a similar issue a couple of months back with my SDI. Restarted, light + buzzer returned initially, but now nothing. Nothing logged on a basic OBD2 tool. I understand it’s a single wire on/off switch system that doesn’t go through the CPU. Initial light on and off is apparently a systems check (how?). Potentially could be either an actual low pressure issue (mechanical) or the system thinks so (electrical). Methinks oil pressure relief valve should open when the oil is cold (despite being, say, 10/40) but closes and stays closed once warmed up with the oil thinning. Mine had been run a number of hours before light came on so hopefully would have already been closed for a while. Suggest if it sticks open it would show symptoms when partially warmed up. Tappets - would have thought the valve spring pushing against the cam will try and empty the bucket when there is no oil pressure and the engine turning, so as a total guess maybe within a minute or so, say by the time you’ve pulled up. Contamination fleckles on the oil side of the switch (or in the gallery) can apparently cause switch malfunction. Wiring - loss of signal is a potential. The loom underneath the battery tray is apparently a place to look, but I would have thought any of the connections in a hot engine bay also. Has been suggested to run direct from switch to dashboard if needs be. Agreed the first port of call would be to change the switch and see if that sorts the issue. Should go out with extra rpm potentially.
  4. The callipers, although common to VAG Lupo/Arosa/Polo etc., appear to be without part numbers but can be found using an online parts search. However, I've only just realised that the car's definitive build sticker in the boot includes a PR code for the brakes. This can be checked off against an online Lupo parts catalogue if you're not using ETKA with the car's registration/VIN code. VW dealers can print you off a car's complete build list of PR numbers - with much more data than in the boot or service sticker. The contact for Bosch Automotive is boschaftermarket.com.parts (Tel: 0344 892 0115) then ask for automotive, then select the number for sales. They can tell you whether the part can still be ordered. Armed with that information I approached GFS motor factor.
  5. I just collected some OE factory exchange callipers for my SDI. Most motor factors will try and sell you an aftermarket make but if you do your research it is possible to get Bosch. Having sorted the part number, Bosch Automotive themselves can tell you if the part is still live/available. I eventually used a motor factor with a Bosch account (offered them a deposit) who agreed to order them. Price was near aftermarket and you get your money back on exchange over the counter. Guess other Bosch parts might be possible direct, even if VAG no longer list them. GFS has ETOS (licensed ETKA) which gives the build of the car and the part numbers - really useful!
  6. Thanks. Yeah that makes sense. Couldn't think of anything additional for this engine bay.
  7. Bracket with two vertical slots in it part of the mount for the rubber picture taken from the front of the car with the bracket having been bent round to stop it rubbing the insulation.
  8. Used automotive grade, self-adhesive open cell foam, single thickness sheet, similar to the original shape. Not perfect, but it looks as if it's only the TDI that has the foam as a separate item. While posting ... what's the arm extension with slots on the front left cover mounting bracket supposed to be for? Currently I have extra material so could possibly do another if anyone wants one fitted. PM me.
  9. Update: Have made a template from the VW original foam shape. The original seems to be a fairly thin, open cell construction foam.
  10. It seems that the early Arosas and 6N Polo SDis didn't have engine covers at all! Had a look at the Boyriven website. Might have to look more in detail at the specification of underfelt for this type of application.
  11. Has anyone looked at replacing the insulation on the inside of the engine cover?
  12. Looking for the tiny plastic pipe that runs front to rear between the EGR control unit on the bulkhead and the main servo pipe. It's clipped to the radiator coolant pipe - and about 4mm in diameter and 13" long.
  13. 0 130 107 291 doesn't seem to be the correct Bosch listing. The one I've actually seen is a 2-pin. 0 130 107 283 might be the correct one. However it appears that both these have been discontinued by Bosch anyway. Found Murray's Direct at Hatfield a helpful and informative supplier.
  14. Thanks for the posts. Have managed to double check that my build against the vin is for a 200/60 watt fan. The Hella appears to be a 250/60 for a vehicle with air con (not available as factory on the SDi as far as I'm aware). Lots of the internet listings appear to be 'will fits'. The Febi Bilstein is specified as a 200/60 and appears to be able to be UK sourced.
  15. Fan has cut in okay when stationary in traffic but made loads of noise. When the garage ran it up to temperature after radiator out for alternator change, they said it was noisy too! When spun over by hand it feels rough and graunchy. Nothing appears broken on the fan itself (curved blades) although it doesn't seem to have a balance weight/clip.
  16. Does anyone know the correct Bosch number for an SDi coolant fan? The V Dub no. is 6N0 959 455E a 200/60w 2-speed as far as I can tell. The only Bosch one I've found is 0 130 107 291 which has two pins on the connector making it a single speed motor. My current fan as fitted (a Temic) has 3 pins as has the thermostatic switch on the radiator. Whilst asking, can anyone advise on the easiest way to get the fan out as it appears blocked by the top hose on the SDi?
