Mine would start as yours did, would then randomly cut out usually during deceleration and not start again, you could hear that the pump wasn't right, sometimes it would pump other times the pump noise would be all over the place, other times I'd get nowt at all, engine would crank over until flat battery. Replaced 601, vagcom showed speedometer fault, changed speed sensor, put in in-line fuel valve Had a brand new pump in the end...wasn't cheap! Depends on how handy you are

Sounds similar to what I had mate,I changed pretty much everything before I gave in and changed the fuel pump....its ran great ever since

If it needs a new clutch it needs a new clutch gears won't be selectable engine off or on or on or off or on

Get a mate to pop the front up and select gears whilst you have a mooch, might have just dislodged, if not new clutch?

I take it your key fits the boot? When you try the passanger side does the cl mechanism sound but doesn't unlock? Or does it unlock and lock quickly? Or nothing at all may have had a lock barrel change, but more likely to be a mech prob
