  1. It feels slightly smoother through some gears but I think I need to add a little extra oil as I only put 2L in and apparently it takes 2.5L - I think it's good to change it in these lupos as they are notorious for the gearboxes going. New oil can only be a good thing, and considering the colour of the old oil I'm glad I changed it.
  2. So I did the gearbox oil change on the ramps, and was just about to do the engine oil, but realised that I didn't have a oil filter wrench - will I need one of these? Or will I be able to undo it with a spanner (as the new one looks like it has somewhere to tighten it on the back) Also how tight shall I torque it up to? Cheers
  3. Hi, I'm planning to do some fluid changes on my 2004 lupo 1.4 S (75BHP BBY engine code) - so that would be gearbox oil, engine oil & coolant. i was planning it out thinking how to do it easily & thought that it would be easier if I put the lupo on some ramps like these: http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_899719_langId_-1_categoryId_255207 (The individual type ramps which you drive your car onto to elevate either the front or back) However, what I wasn't sure on was if I would be ok using these as the fluid might go to the back of the engine etc? So would it be OK or be better to just jack the car up on one side, or not raise it up at all?! Any advice is much appreciated! Thanks, Max
  4. Replaced the pads tonight & greased the sliders. The old pads are unevenly worn, but I think I might need to grease them a bit more, just unsure how easy they need to be able to slide. However, the whole disc still isn't shiny but seems to be getting more even. - This is why I think the sliders need more greasing Bit disappointed about the old pads as they had a lot of life left in them & were Bosch ones.
  5. I've just bought some new pads tonight which I'll fit tomorrow & hopefully they'll bed in ok. There isn't much difference in the disc, just the shiney bit is smoother, no noticeable lip etc. I can't see the other side of the disc, but its strange that its both sides (slightly different on one side) so that leads me to think that its the pads, and not a stuck piston etc, as it would be strange to have a stuck piston on both sides. How would I see if the calliper piston is stuck? Also, how easily should the sliders be able to move? as I had quite a job on pulling the calliper apart to get it to clear the disc. To be honest, the brakes are as good if not better than what they were before, so I think it must have been happening with the old discs or something. I think I'll change the pads over tomorrow, and then see if it helps, if it doesn't then I'll be taking it into the garage. Cheers
  6. Hi, Probably a silly question. I've just replaced my brake discs, but I didn't replace the pads (thinking I maybe should have now). And after about 50 miles part of the disc has gone shiny, but other parts havent, is this normal? Have I missed something? or is it uneven wear due to not changing the pads? Should I put new pads on now, or is it too late? Also: it is the same on both sides of the car. Thanks
  7. The lupo 1.4 S (not sport) came with a 16v engine, it's a 75bhp bhp engine, but they differ depending on the age of the car

    1.4 Manifold & Brakes

Ok right okay, I'll go and get some pads tonight then! When Doing the brakes, what's the bolt called which usually strips? So I can go and get some spares from VW just in case! Cheers

    1.4 Manifold & Brakes

the pads look almost brand new but the discs are well gone, so is there any major reason to change the pads if they have a lot of life in them? cheers
  10. Hi, Got a few questions... 1: I've got a 2004 lupo 1.4 s (non sport) and was looking to maybe get this manifold on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200883645168 however I know there were a few different engines in the 1.4 lupo, theres a picture of my engine below, does anyone know if the manifold will fit? Photo of Engine: Also I need to change my brake discs, but not the pads, will i need to re-wind the caliper in or anything like that? or can i just take the caliper off over the disc, fit new discs then put it back on with no problems? Thanks, Max

  13. Okay, so i've found that it doesn't need any wire to the negative, and only needs the ground wires attaching at either light. So my new question is, where's a ground point near either light?!
