  1. Hi , I've got a 1.4TDi and am having gear selection issues. The lever feels very stiff to move around the gate in neutral and when driving it will not go into the gear selected. at a standstill you have to put it into second before you can slide it into first to move off. Was wondering if a change of gearbox oil would make any difference ? If so what grade of oil do i need and what quantity ? TIA

  3. Ok so I've had trouble with the emissions on my 1.4Tdi at MOT time. So yesterday removed EGR valve and gave it a good clean. Put everything back together. Question is the vacuum powered rod that moves the butterfly valve in the EGR does that operate when you rev the engine or does it only work when the engine is under load (i.e driving) I gave it a bit of vacuum when the valve was off the car and at moved the butterfly, so it works. someone mentioned a solenoid ? where would i find this and how can i test it ? cheers Euan
  4. I've also fixed a small hole in the exhaust which might help ?
  5. Previous test results have all been around 1.60. So that would mean it would piss the default limit of 3.0. However is it illegal to tamper with the vin plate ? I could paint over it to obscure the 0.8 figure.
  6. Sausage, - was wondering about that. So if i physically blank the egr now it wont throw a warning light on the dash which is also a fail. It hardly puts out any visible smoke. Can they find the value for it off a data base or do they physically have to be able to see it on the plate ?
  7. Can you install an EGR delete plate to sort this or will that adversely affect the emissions ? and or be illegal as far as MOT goes ?

  9. My loop 1.4Tdi has recently failed it's MOT on emissions. A few years ago i had it re-mapped and was wondering if this would have any effect on the emissions ? if it doeas can i obtain a second hand ECU from a scrapped car and swap it with mine and therefore return it to standard or is it more complicated than that ?
