  1. hmm not so sure now, i think tax wise it should be the same as its older than 2001 and in the 0-1500cc category. Might just wack it on ebay and see what happens, i mean the car runs and is MOT'd and Taxed and doesn't drink that much oil 1ltr per 500 miles or so, so someone will be interested surely if I advertise it honestly thanks for all the replys guys.
  2. Hi guys, I hope someone can help me I have 1999 lupo 1.4s that I use daily that that taps and knocks when it's cold, smokes once its hot, and guzzles oil about 1ltr per 500 miles ish it has only covered 73000 miles and looking on forums and speaking to many friends/mechanics who have owned similar 1.4 16v vw engines (Golf, Seat Leon, Polo) have had the same kind of issues, also my neighbour has a 1.4 16v Fabia not sure if its the same or similar engine but it looks very similar and his sounds dreadful on cold and drinks oil so is it just a inherent fault on all of the the 1.4, and if so theres very little point me replacing my oil thirsty engine for one exactly the same. I'm not bothered about the power and I have swapped engines before I just want something reliable ( fair enough like for like and that was a mk4 escort that had no ecu, and hardly any electrics and everything just lined up) I class my self as a fairly competent mechanic like said I have swapped my 1.3 Escort engine, changed 2 gearbox on the same escort, done a headgasket on the same useless car, and when my Ecotec Calibra cambelt snapped re built it completely, but am a little concerned that this may be a little beyond me. Basically first is it possible to swap my 1.4 ahw engine for a 1.0 mpi engine or any other more bullet proof engine and will the existing mounts/gear box suffice and how much work is involved on top of the obvious strip down and swap physical lumps. As the car is its probably not worth much for spares and repairs on eBay even though the car still runs fine and still used daily so is it worth a shot? I can source a 1.0 Lupo engine at my local breakers with all ancillaries and 60 day warranty for £150 but is it worth it or is it far more hassle than I think, has anyone done it. I also have a Newage Impreza WRX and a skoda felicia (crap as it is its uber reliable) so dont mind having it off the road for a little while. Sorry for rambling on a bit. Any advice is greatly appreciated Many thanks in advance Mick
  3. not sure but id be interested to hear about this as well, I have a 1.4s with no centre exit and was just looking at these very exhausts on ebay to make mine a centre exit jobby.
  4. got one from vw, about £3 then i realised why the previous owner had left it out, the hole was mashed, i ended up using a tap kit and re-tapping the threads for the bolt so a 1 minute job turned out to take 2 hours all good now, thanks Mick
  5. i hadnt thought of the stealers, I will pop down there on my way home, thanks.
  6. I am struggling to find anywhere I can get hold of one used wheel nut for my 1999 1.4 lupo with 13" steel wheels. I have only had the car Few weeks and today took my wheel trims off, to my horror there is one nut missing. I dont want to buy an entire set nor do I want a set of lockibg nuts, does anyone have a spare knocking around in the garage. Mick
  7. after a good engine flush and some decent oil at the weekend I thrashed it a little on the motorway (sensibly) on the way home this evening and i must say it seems a lot quieter now, might do another flush and oil change in 3-4k and see how it goes, looking at the last 2 MOT's its only cover 2000 miles in 2 years so could be just needing bedding in a bit. i havnt yet covered a full tank of fuel distance yet so it might quieten down yet if oil ways are slightly blocked,
  8. i assume its the 75bhp one, on the top cover it said 1.4 16v and the model is the 1.4s on the vin plate it says AHW not sure if thats the engine code. after a good engine flush and some decent oil at the weekend I thrashed it a little on the motorway on the way home this evening and i must say it seems a lot quieter now, might do another flush and oil change in 3-4k and see how it goes,
  9. No one? I only want someone with a 1.4s to listen to it for comparison with theirs and give opinions is mine overly noisy and do i need it looking at Mick
  10. Hi Everyone, a few weeks ago i bought my first German car, a 1999 VW Lupo in what looks like post-it-note yellow with full service history and every mot since the car was new, long MOT and tax, i paid £800 for it which seemed fairly cheap. it has covered 64000 and is the 1.4s model. I think its the AHW engine? I drive a 2001 Subaru impreza and this is my sensible economical run about for travelling to work (250 miles a week) I would like to fit anthracite G60's with a stretch and Lower it as far as realistically possibly on coilovers 100mm maybe a little more?, paint the roof gloss black and fit cambridge rear lights, carbon wrap some of the interior and fit a double din dvd headunit. nothing too much as its only a second car. it has a small dent that I will have fixed when I have the money, it can be seen in the pic below. I have nothing to compare it to but it seems a bit noisy engine tappy/rattly (reminds me a bit my old 1.3 C reg escort)I and am looking for advice on it in another post in the Model Specific Section of Lupo with a link to a youtube video of my car. so please have a gander I just want comparison against others with the same engine. anyway hello and see you all around on the forum.
  11. Hi Guys, I am a newbie so be gentle to me. a few weeks ago week I have bought my first cheap Lupo with full Vw service history, it is a 1999 T reg and has covered 64'000 miles. last week I had a new timing belt and water pump/tensioners fitted, I serviced it at the weekend, flushing the engine and filled with 5w30 castrol edge. the car doesnt smoke or drink any oil that ive noticed and it drives lovely. anyway searching the forum these engines seem to be famous for rattling/knocking/tapping can anyone tell me does mine sound knackared or is it ok/similar to everyone elses, ive had nothing to compare it against and it does sound very tappy to me and its beginning to worry me a bit, it does quieten a little once its warm but not by much, this is the first german car ive ever owned in just hoping its going to be ok, the other car I drive is a Bugeye Impreza WRX. any advice is greatly appreciated, this is my car tapping noise (sound is exaggerated on the video for some reason possibly my mobile):- [media=]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kWpye_YliPc&feature=youtu.be pics to follow shortly, once the cars clean.
